@wally3 is tommorrow our two weeks span to call Brandon back? I expect nothing from this but now just curious to see what they will tell us this time lol.
Yes - tomorrow is 2 weeks since we spoke and I plan on calling. I agree that it will likely not accomplish much but I am nothing if not persistent. Had to go to Houston over the weekend and saw my first SE in the wild (since my test drive). It made me very jealous. But sitting in standstill traffic for 45 minutes on the freeway coming home made me rethink taking the SE on a trip like that. Even with charging available, sitting still in 100 degree weather for that long would give me severe range anxiety - thinking it’s likely just a town car (which is fine). Here’s hoping this is the week!
Unlike ICE, traffic in an electric car almost always increases your range! Traveling at ~15-30mph is significantly more efficient than highway speeds (even with the AC running) thanks to the exponential component of aerodynamic drag
Oh I get that - this was literally sitting still for 45 minutes. I clocked it and we did not go 3 miles in 45 minutes. I could have walked faster.
It’s a bit like playing a lottery ticket. Very hopeful that this is the day I win big, but always disappointed, even though I know I won’t win.
I had some time before a meeting while I was working on a few things, so I called ASKMINI again. That's the last time, they truly can give no other answer other than possible parts shortage maybe wire harnesses maybe chips maybe due to war in Ukraine All the agents except 1 I've talked to have been very nice and put some effort in, but I'll go back in my hole now.
There is no "idling" in an EV. If you're not moving, you're not using any electricity (except for heat or A/C). All of your cabin stuff runs off the 12 V battery, which is charged by the high-voltage batteries so I guess using the radio could drain your batteries in about...a year?
The HVAC training doc I have for the i3 (same as the MINI) says the compressor has a maximum rated consumption of 4.5kW so at absolute peak it would use 15.6% per hour. However it's definitely not running at peak constantly and I believe someone else on here got ~2kW from an OBD scanner which would be 7% per hour
My Leaf uses less than 1KW once the black interior has cooled down. My LEAF gets down closer to 1KW once the black interior has cooled off. I've never paid much attention to it though, just use LeafSpy for checking battery state of health and any codes that might popup (primarily on my first Leaf).
life of "may be or possible...!" BTW my BRG is now stuck AT PORT since Jun 8th... ASK-MINI is also no help.. no news...
Last month I had to travel out of town in 93F and kill a few hours at my destination. I arrived and started googling local coffee shops, but suddenly remembered I was sitting on a GIANT battery for idle purposes. I just sat in my car for about an hour and a half, and, if memory serves, I used around 10 to 15% battery with the A/C cranked and stereo playing CarPlay. I remember this because I needed 30% battery to get home, so I was paying attention. I love the Mini's ability to idle with A/C.
I just love the idea of being able to control preconditioning and the cabin environment from my phone. When we picked up the Subaru four years ago, we had them install an aftermarket remote starter that had a much longer range (something close to 700 metres LOS in my tests) than the factory remote (which only works from about the same distance as the key fob can lock and unlock the doors). The F&I guy offered us a remote starter that worked by cellular, and it was some outrageous price like $700, along with ongoing fees. No thanks. A coworker had one installed in his Dodge Journey about 10 years ago and it was over $1200 and around $10 a month.
Just got off the phone with Brandon. He remembered the case and pulled up his notes. I got sympathy and essentially the same ‘materials shortage’ explanation. I attempted to gain insight as to how/why they prioritize parts that do come in and what the plan was to ever address our cars. The reply was essentially that this is how bmw/mini operates and that they don’t rob peter to pay paul. Rather than debate the logic, I accepted that and moved on - I asked Brandon for a case manager and he stated he would be the case manager and that we are at the point where they can typically start escalating but was quick to level set m expectations. He does not expect to be able to find much more out. He said that prepandemic this would have set off all kinds of flags but now is becoming the norm. I expressed frustration at the process, the lack of transparency in what had been a very transparent workflow, and shared some of my concerns about rising rates and potentially missing rebates etc. All duly noted. Brandon is going to look into it and committed to getting back to me no later than 7/5. At this point my expectations are low. Wally
That is similar to the response I got when I called ASK-MINI. The person said that he could escalate but nothing will happen, just how things are now.
If only @abrandt could change the title of the thread to "Anyone else been stuck in Quality Check for a month or more?"
You wouldn't want the thread to be less inclusive, would you? I doubt the QC parking lot is full yet.
