Recall 196 now shows on US Hyundai Recall website..

Hi All,
I learn so much from this forum, Thank You in advance.
So I just took my car in for recall 196, and as soon as I got home (20 min drive) they called to tell me it was complete. On the recall site, it is still listed as incomplete. Not sure how long that takes to update... but I am skeptical, unfortunately.
What would you do or ask for? Is there a report that they can share?
 
Honestly, the MyHyundai website tells me my car is due for a service pretty much done I've owned it, which is almost 2 years ago. At first I think it was an oil change (!!!). [emoji19]
 
Mine goes in tomorrow (Tuesday) morning ... fingers crossed. But glad to at least not have to worry about burning down my house when charging at night.
 
Ok, I'm on the drive back home from the software update. It took about 2 hours. I guess I was lucky. This was the only dealership in New Mexico that has a master technician that is able to do that update.

He said they had another Kona a little while ago that got the first update done there. So I'm only the second Kona that they ever had.

I noticed that my CEC (cumulative energy charged) and CED (cumulative energy discharged) numbers are reset again when I plugged in my OBD2 reader (on their lot after getting the key back [emoji1]). So starting from zero again on that.

At least it proves they did the update (or at least some update [emoji1787]).

I will stop at an EA charger back in Albuquerque to charge to 81% in about an hour. Will update then.
 
Well, that charging session was an experience ...

The first charger wouldn't go faster than 54 kW, so we unplugged and moved to another one. It went up to 77 kW and dropped at around 59%, normal.

But then it dropped again at 65% to ~39 kW which is too early, and then dropped again at 70% to less than 30 kW. Not sure what that's all about. Pack temperature was only 31°C which shouldn't be a problem.

I hope this is just a glitch in the matrix.

I will definitely keep an eye on it. Next week I have my long work drive coming up which is when I have to quick charge again. Will report what happens.

EA DCFC after update. Started charge at 36% 40kw, 40% 54kw, 50% 55kw, 60% 56kw, 63% 42kw, 70% 59kw, 75% 35kw, 79% 36kw, ended at 79%, total time was 39 minutes. See attached: EA charge.webp

So I just had the 196 recall update completed. Here’s how it went:
Note: I live in AZ, the EV Kona is rare there.
When I dropped the car of I told the dealer I need the answer to 2 questions;
1) will I be able to park in the garage and 2) can I charge to 100%. The tech told my service associate YES to both.
I got a severe stress warning alert on my phone while they were working on it. At least I knew they were working on it and raised my stress level. LOL.
The new BMS Software installed with no issues.
Physical inspection of the batteries showed no signs of damage or abnormalities.
I had the car back the same day.
I found this interesting; the invoice shows that the dealer will receive $68 (US) for their time from Hyundai.

That was my experience with the 196 recall. I feel good about the whole experience and that my Kona is going to be just fine.
FYI-My Kona was built in August 2019.

i got a written recall 196 notice last week for my 2019 kona and have a hyundai service appointment for next tues. and yesterday i actually got a call from hyundai to make sure i was aware and following thru on the recall.
nice that hyundai is being responsible about this.
i never charge above 80% but will feel better when service shows no potential problem.

As it would take much more than $68 in labor to drop a traction battery pack, open the sealed 1000 + pound case that holds the 5 group modules (which really would tell you nothing) and reinstall. I suspect the sum total of the physical inspection was to verify your had a battery and it was not currently on fire. :)

Yeah, it seems likely that the update process also reports pass/fail for the few pack parameters measurable, and that's what they call an "inspection".
But Konas in NZ do get an actual yearly external physical inspection sign-off by the dealer that is on a separate stub from the service stamp.

Should add that my local dealer here in Durham handled the previous BMS update with no issues. I’m planning to contact them tomorrow but I was concerned after hearing back from the Cary dealership earlier today.

I had to drive an hour up to Santa Fe from Albuquerque because the two dealers here didn't want to touch the car.

The dealer in Santa Fe said that they have a master technician who is the only one allowed to do it in New Mexico.

2020-477. Canada's updated.Build is December 2018 which appears slightly cursed. No idea if they have enough batteries to replace the recalls when they can't ship enough 2020 Kona electrics? BMS was already updated under the campaign.So it is pointing to a replacement given my range,charge time,and battery saver mode issues. I think it's a combination of cell, BMS, something in the EPCU , and possibly wiring harness into the battery could be faulty.
 
My charging station is inside my GARAGE. And of course is where I park my car. While the Hyundai recall bulletin states to "PARK OUTSIDE", is that because of the SOC to 100% ???? I honestly don't want to park outside unless it is imperative to do so. (Winter coming). What are you all DOING regarding to charging & Parking? ugh .. I used to REALLY love this car ... now THIS !
This is what's not clear. Is the kona electric potentially going to only explode when charging to any SOC,more so to 100% ? Most park in a garage,and with winter,I don't want to park outside.

Interesting thought,pre BMS update.I used the utility mode for 4 hours,and I noticed a higher kWh consumption than expected.Is this an indicator of the battery malfunctioning? Post BMS campaign update,I noticed the kona now will stop DC charging about 2% before the set SOC.The other day while using L2,about 6kW in a heated garage. The vehicle said it needed 4.50 minutes hours to charge from about 80% which I thought was odd. I am waiting for the dealership to give me more information about battery availability,next step based on vehicle history.
 
Got my recall email tonight from Hyundai and have my recall service scheduled for next Wednesday (11/11). Will post how it goes afterwards.
It's 12 days,or 7 business days later.Do you have any news?Did your Kona scan show it needs a new battery?If so,how long before it reaches you.

Weird, there was an update on November 11 after the October 13,2020 recall. If I'm reading the somewhat evasive recall details.For Canada,the BMS is acknowledged as part of a situation that may cause the Kona electric to turn into a roman candle fire work.
 
just got a call from hyundai and the car won't be ready today. one of the updates
keeps failing
Exactly what happened with my BMS campaign, part 2 that randomly showed up with my VIN. The inconsistent details for this battery recall doesn't exactly build confidence as each country appears "different."
