Map updates

Now I see an email that says my map purchase complete and they will ship it. Don’t know what that means. They say there is no charge but if they send it on an sd card they normally charge for the card. What a screw up!

So why don't they just send a new SD card to start with to avoid this type of problem:confused:
 
I just had a look at the instructions. They look terribly written and complex. I have no confidence that there are not several (probably important) steps missing. I wonder if "free" updates include getting the dealership to handle it?
 
It's really sad that today with a car that is actually online anyways it doesn't do these updates ota (over the air).

Legacy auto makes just don't get it and are so stuck in the past it's ridiculous.

But they are good at bashing Tesla. I think you should only throw stones if you're out of the glass house. And are at least at par with the competition.

I mean even if Tesla built gas cars they still would be connected and way better than any other manufacturer considering user experience. (Not saying they don't have issues)

I am thinking it looks quite straightforward if you read through things first. You have the option of downloading onto your computer, but you still have to click "place an order" and then it comes up with two options:
"Download map software (32 G Download) available for Windows 7 or newer only. Download time varies + free with a little circle to tick off.

The other choice is SD card through the mail + CAD$30.00. You don't want to click on that one.

And before you get to this point you should have gone to your car and taken note of your device ID as it will be requested after ticking one of the above. You get the device ID on one of the buttons on the right side of the nav screen called setup.

My husband is going to use a blank SD card and try a download tomorrow perhaps. That way if it does go smoothly he will be able to use our old SD card.
 
After two hours of downloading and another hour of verifying the file, an error has caused the whole process to start over.

My advice is that if you're going to sit around all afternoon you might as well do it at the dealership.

Installation patch should be "accessible with pre-order and should arrive in fall of 2019":D

But would the dealership charge labour for doing it?
 
So the second download went smoothly and no time was wasted on verifying bytes. After that it was just a matter of obeying prompts and waiting… and waiting... The only glitch came at the end when it kept offering me a corrupt pdf containing the drill for installation in the car. Anyway this is just a matter of inserting the SD and turning on the power. Half an hour and several automatic resets later, you're good to go.

I haven't had a chance to check the data, other than noting with some dismay that our local BC Hydro station is still not listed, despite having been there since Toby was a pup.

Is there ample space on your hard drive? This is a huge download. Those with limited data plans should beware as well.

First, congratulations on the successful install and report back. (You are probably the first !)
I would like to comment on your observation of the B.C.hydro station not being loaded as a charging location.
If it's this one:

Maybe Hyundai has actually picked up on the fact that these machines are not compatible and if that's the case what DCFC locations are listed on the island ( and the rest of B.C.) that ARE compatible?

I'll have a look, but just browsing around the mid-Island I'm not seeing anything new. I doubt stations would be deliberately omitted. More likely just badly outdated information.

On the bright side, we now have Mexico!
 
Glad to hear the maps are still useless, just like they were before. I am curious if they really believe people will pay for an update after the 3 years of free usage. If the information was current it would be a great tool but this is a joke. I'm curious if I'll see updates here in the US but I doubt it.

Very disappointed in that part of the software.

I haven't looked at road data at all. It will be interesting to see if it knows about the speed reduction on Hwy 19 (and others in BC) that came into effect last November.

There is a highway close to Las Vegas that is "new" too. I'll check if that is in there when I'm getting the update.

I just completed the update and can't believe how complicated the developers made it. It's like installing Windows 98, it's got that feel about it. On the plus side I managed to download to a generic 32Gb SD card and the only deviation from the instructions was that I ended up doing the PC install twice, not sure why it didn't work the first time. Installing in the Kona was also straight forward though it didn't need any intervention after plugging in the new SD card. The prompts did complain that the card wasn't in the correct format but it went ahead and did the install anyway. I didn't loose any radio presets so that was a bonus. The SD card install took a long time over the course of a day and the Kona install took about 30 minutes.
 
The update seems to be a dud. I see none of the fast chargers on Vancouver Island, and street/speed info for my area is still out of date. Hardly worth installing unless you're planning to visit Guadalajara or really want bodies of water to be a paler shade of blue.
