BTW, you are not capable of debunking anything as you simply search for someone who agrees with you and then take that as a fact... Did you ever take philosophy? We started with a class called the theory of knowledge in high school. Its very interesting learning, you should try it.

Why is it you think I am against EV's... Just yesterday I made several posts positive about the Kona, the E-Tron, the I-Pace, Ioniq, Bolt, and Leaf. Those are all EV's... The only negative post I made was about Elon Musk, and his ridiculous tweets... Here is a reminder photo.... I also saw a picture of a Junk Tesla parked next to the loading dock at Fremont, the guy that took the photo said it has been there for 3 weeks. Its quite a beauty...

I guess that shows how little I know about the Kona. :) I keep thinking I should read up on it, since it seems to be in the EV news a lot lately.

Kudos to the efficiency of the Kona. But drawing any conclusions from this is kind of reaching. Both David Green getting excited about the Kona doing better than the Tesla and Tesla fans knocking it. Two very different vehicles. Also could have gone with the larger battery Tesla, since it was the Kona with the bigger battery. The charge rate would highly depend on the exact route. Here in Central Oregon there would be no option for the fast charging of the Kona but there would be ample opportunity for the Tesla.

Basically, both sides showing their strong bias in the analysis of this event. David, I know in a past exchange you said you weren't anti Tesla, but this kind of jumping on any news that can be considered anti Tesla is exactly how my anti Tesla friends react.

Jumping on this? Can you point out my jumping, where I am not responding to obvious slams from pupu, and Bob? I merely replied to this post saying Nice Job, Kia... Which obviously should have directed to Hyundai... Then Bob wants to compare to I-Pace? Which is a post he is directing at me, and I replied... Who cares. Tesla and the supercharger network lost the race.

This was not a race for efficiency, Obviously Hyundai has all Tesla's beat there. It was a race of time over distance including recharging, which is where the Kona, even only using 50% of its charging capacity was able to beat the Tesla supercharger and Model X. This is a huge boost to Kona, it looks like with proper charging infrastructure it could be a good race for a Model 3, which would be unbelievable. Competition is coming for Tesla, Bias or not bias...

BTW, I think most people like serious competition, thats not being anti Tesla, thats just wanting to see advancements for others as well as Tesla, At the same time, I will say I like Elon Musk and Tesla less every day when I see things like this posted on twitter.

I would like to have seen it get close to 100KW at some point of the charge, but we need more data, more cars and more chargers to see if this is indeed the rate or an anomaly.

This would be an example of jumping... Drawing any conclusions from a single unrepresentative test. Not doing any critical thinking about what this test really means.

I agree with you on efficiency and am disappointed how little emphasis is placed on efficiency with electric cars. Just because it's electric, doesn't mean you can ignore efficiency. But you do need to remember the Model S/X are several years old and are what got the ball rolling. And there would be no Kona without Tesla.

Yes competition is coming for Tesla. You'd be hard pressed to find a Tesla fan that wouldn't say this is a good thing. But the real competition isn't there yet, even with demonstrations like this. In most of the US, Tesla still is the only game in town for a road trip. Once I have my Bolt, I'd be willing to try but there is no way my wife would be willing to do a 1000 mile trip dealing with the charging issues. But the impression you give is that you are excited about the competition because it'll knock Tesla down, not because the entire electric industry is growing. That might not be how you actually feel but that is definitely how it comes across in all of your posts.

We must draw some conclusion from a single test, later we will find out if the result is repeatable. Future tests will also expand the envelope, and create new data points for more conclusions, possibly even revision earlier conclusions.

As for your Bolt, you should try it on 1000 mile, depending on where you live, there is decent public charging. We are keeping an ICE vehicle cause an EV just cannot replace it yet in snowy weather or for a long trip.

The Bolt has terrible charging profile and is not meant for road trips.

The Kona is the first EV that can keep up or beat a Tesla in a road trip. The price point makes it a unbelievable value.

You totally missed the point on my Bolt comment. And besides, charging of the Kona around here (and much of the world) would be pretty much exactly the same as the Bolt. Someday, yes, but not today.

The key in your second statement is "a Tesla". This article, and you, are comparing the best Hyundai to the worst Tesla for this situation, on a tailor made route for the Kona. The Kona doing this route is an achievement, yes. But it is in no way showing Hyundai has a better BEV than Tesla.

I can't argue with the price point. If that is the argument, comparing it to a Model X period is kind of ridiculous.

So its 50 Minutes in a Kona, or 81 minutes in a Bolt, lets say those are the same chargers, which I do not think they are. A difference of 31 minutes, and 6 charges on a 1K mile trip, so 3 hours slower in Bolt... Thats really not that bad, especially when you take off the time for eating, sleeping, etc..

The point of Bjorn's comparison, is that the Kona can take a road trip and arrive in the same time as His Model X, that is a data point, EV's are getting cheaper for models that can road trip.
