I don't think from Lower Mainland area or Island :Where are you located and what dealership?

But location and dealer repair details could be a huge help ... eventually.

Using that as a basis and most noticeable tapping sound at low speed - say 10 kph (6.2 mph), 1.159 ( tire rotation as per calculator)* 7.9 ( reduction gear ratio) = 9 Taps / second which sounds about right of course slower at slightly lower speed. The basic calculation for how fast a car tire rotates is pretty easy.

At 60mph, you get about 750 RPM. Depends on the tire, of course - that's another issue, but this is really just a rough back-of-the envelope calculation. Anyways that's about 12.5 rotations per second if you are going 60mph. I don't know how fast people were going when they made the recordings.
The reduction gear has a ratio of something like 7.9, so the motor itself turns that much faster. About 100 rotations per second.
Well at least Hyundai decided to include a tachometer at no extra charge... for a once per rev tap from the motor, which is what you've calculated by including the gear ratio![]()
Yep that's it, do you get the same in reverse?I went down to my dealer to get it fixed, they said they didn't hear it, but I kept talking with them and they eventually said to take a video and send it to them. Fingers crossed they can just get the new revised motor in and replace it soon.

Video for others if they're interested, this is super low speed in a parking lot.
Very clear audio there. I would describe the sound as a "knock" rather than a tick or clunk. It's not easy to narrow the location by the frequency because CV joints could knock several times a rev. But if it was later identified as a loose bearing at the gearbox input I would say that the noise would match. It sounds not much different than a worn ICE rod bearing.Yea, the first part of the video is me reversing out of a parking spot, and then the rest is me driving forward.
Update on the noise from my 2020Kona EV Ultimate - 6,000K:
Hyundai Canada is replacing the motor with the New 701 series motor and they will be checking the gear reduction drive to see if it require replacement also. I was given a ICE Kona as a loaner.
The dealership & Hyundai have been very good.

Could it be something simple like mating bolts need to be retorqued? When it warms up, they tighten up themselves, and thus no ticking. The ticking might be the fretting between the mating surfaces when they loosen up. Just my uneducated speculation...
Any paperwork copy showing the new revision motor?Picked up my Kona with new 701 series engine installed, so far so good. The gear drive was not replaced. They said it was checked over and is OK. We shall see. Location Vancouver island , BC, Courtney.

Thanks for the video. Where in the motor compartment did you place it?I went down to my dealer to get it fixed, they said they didn't hear it, but I kept talking with them and they eventually said to take a video and send it to them. Just got a call from my local dealer (Langley) and they just got in the parts for my motor replacement (confirmed as the 701). Scheduled it to be done next Tues. So will see. Interestingly, haven't heard the tick tick recently, even though it has been cool here lately.
