Clarity Issues

Also, I think the Clarity has a heat pump heater in it, so make sure your AC use is enabled, as the heat pump and the AC are the same thing. It is possible that if you disable the AC it won't pre-heat properly. I am not certain on the heat pump, but it does show on the Honda information page under the Driving Range FAQ:

However, this could be a copy paste error from the Clarity BEV which says the same thing.

I will mess around with mine some too, but haven't had much chance yet. Honestly, the heater blows hot air so fast (like 50 feet from the house), that I don't see much reason to preheat it and I don't get to drive it very often ;)

My wife did say the fan is making a rattling noise at temps less than about 0 F.

I've tried many variations. From what I understand the Honda will operate independently of the user settings. The system will apparently select heat or air conditioning as necessary to put the car somewhere around 72 degrees.

At any rate I'm bringing the Clarity to the dealer today for them to look into why it isn't working.

Trying with parking brake applied. Maybe it has something to do with your EVSE and Clarity.

I'm at the dealer now. The car is so new they have no experience with it, and this issue is a bit obscure. They checked for codes-nothing. They are contacting Honda now.
 
I have an answer from the Honda technician. Likely THE answer to my Remote Climate issue.

It turns out the car has particular conditions under which it will decide to cool or heat the car using Remote Climate either on the key fob or HondaLink. The car has a temperature band it calls the "Comfortable Air Temperature Zone." If within that zone the car will not heat nor cool in Remote Climate mode. The technician was able to pull up a few pertinent pages on his laptop (after 1/2 hour of searching). He's printed the pages and I scanned them in as a jpg file - attached. Perhaps this data is in a service manual. It should be in the Owner's Manual in my opinion.

Our winters are mild here, and the car is kept in the garage. The conditions to heat the car with Remote Climate are the ambient temperature in the garage must be 77F or less while the inside of the car must be 59F or less. Otherwise the heat won't come on. It does seem possible that our car didn't fall under those conditions, but 77F in the garage in winter! Well it gives me a ton more information. I will now test the car in the wee hours of the morning to see if this data solves the problem. This chart also explains why the Remote Climate system did work one time when the conditions must have been just right.

For those who have a Clarity and report that the Remote Climate works I'm guessing you are in much colder climates than we are. At the moment (Dec 27) it is 57F. The garage is 62 and the inside of the car is 69; so the heat would not come on according to the chart.

yep, a balmy high of 13F today here, -8F over night. We can go to -20F with -30F our local record.

With an unfinished, unheated garage, decided to use my old 30A circuit (from the former Clipper Creek LCS-20 charge cord) for an electric heater to bring the garage temp to just above freezing. Ordered the heater and a timer (so it just runs a few times a day) today. The heater and timer links (underlined).
 
how's this for weird - if I use the remote climate control my SirusXM radio audio is silenced (even though I can cycle through my presets), but sound comes back once I turn car off then back on. Anyone else experiencing this?

YES YES!!!! How hysterical is this! We just got back from eating out and before we left the restaurant, we turned on the remote climate to warm the car about 10 minutes prior to leaving. We get back in, and the XM is dead! AM, FM & Bluetooth audio work fine, but the XM does not. However I had an even deeper issue in that I couldn't even change channels. It was stuck on the channel we left it and that was it. Not until we just got back home and turned the car off & on, did we get XM back.

This is definitely a glitch that Honda needs to work out.

Having gotten used to the Tesla and fixes simply being downloaded to the car from the 'mother ship', I wonder how Honda takes care of an issue like this?

Same for me. I posted elsewhere in this forum about this issue. It's not consistent, but it's happened a few times over the last few weeks. Since it's not repeatable, I'm not wasting my time at the dealer but it's definitely frustrating to lose the audio for a few hours.

Since you have a knowledgeable (or at least hard working) tech, could you ask him about the OTHER Remote Climate issue - why does SiriusXM radio lock up when you use Remote Climate until you reboot (stop and restart the car)?

@Reno_bk - Unfortunately for some of us, it is repeatable to the point of almost every time I use it - I think the one time it didn't happen was when I was still plugged into my Level 2 charger.
 
I think you can hard reboot the radio by holding down the power button for a few seconds. That is at least better than waiting until you use the car again.

Thanks for finding that out, that page should be in the longer owners manual :)

Yes, it has been extremely cold here, last few days have been in single digits high and below 0F lows.

Anyone else have their climate fan start rattling at low temperatures? Appointment to get it looked at tomorrow...

I don't have SeriusXM so I can't repeat the issue. But I also have questions about this.

When I've used Remote Climate the car begins by being turned off. Then the climate system starts and presumably, under the right conditions, starts heating or cooling the car. While that is happening the car is locked and otherwise completely turned off. So I need your input about the exact situation. How is it that you are operating the radio when the car is shut off?

Note the issue isn't that we are trying to operate the radio while the car is plugged in and running the remote climate, it's AFTER running the remote climate and you start the car, the XM radio is dead. Only once did turning the car off and on again did it come back...usually it takes several hours to come back.

I'll try it. I'm going to the Honda dealer tomorrow morning so I'll ask about the Serius issue.
 
I should mention that I also am having cold air when I turn on the car when it is plugged in. And I don't live in Southern California. It is 20 degrees here. My garage is warmer, but not that much warmer. I haven't checked the temp when I turn on the climate control from the key fob from outside the car, I'm just sitting in the car messing with the menu's and stuff and trying to stay warm.

same issue (sitting in the cold checking out operations and menu selections). First thing I do getting into the plugged-in car, is to set seat heat 3.
