So far so good! Thanks for creating the shortcut and saving data into notes

You're welcome! Thanks for testing it. @fasttr (I'm not sure how active they are on here) did most of the work on the Notes thing. I just had to tweak it and get it working on the current IOS version. I'm going to like having the automatic 'history' build up. And I'm VERY glad @Puppethead pointed out how my numbers were off when starting battery was less than 100%. That was a bad error in my math.

Here are my two trips from yesterday, with a mid-day charge up to 74% SoC:
    ***********************************
    Jan 28, 2022 at 12:49 *** Driven: 41.2 Mi *** Mi / kWh: 3.48 *** Range Left: 59.34 Mi *** Total Range: 100.54 Mi
    ***********************************
    Jan 28, 2022 at 17:34 *** Driven: 42.6 Mi *** Mi / kWh: 3.78 *** Range Left: 38.23 Mi *** Total Range: 80.83 Mi

Looks like the new EV Range is working great, I ended up with about 38% SoC when I got home. thanks @GvilleGuy!

(Although looking at the numbers I'm curious why the second leg was more efficient but had lower total range...)

Thanks for letting me know! That IOS note format lends itself well to pasting into the forum!

Thinking more on this, I think I will add start and end battery charge data to that output. Might as well…

Is the range for the second leg from the 74% SoC? So while more efficient you didn’t exceed the 100 mile calculated range of the first leg. If the second leg had the same efficiency, then the calculated range would have been 74 miles.

I put Mini SE Range v2.1 out there - it now sends the start/end Batt % to IOS Notes:

Yes, but shouldn't the total range actually go up with a higher efficiency? Total range should be battery capacity * mi/kWh, right? The actual SoC for beginning/end would affect mi/kWh, but I wouldn't think it would change the total range calculation. Unless I'm missing something.

Update: I think I figured it out. It seems the total range is based on the amount of charge minus the mile driven. So in my example, 42.6 miles driven and 38.23 calculated miles left = 80.83 miles range.

Maybe two values, "range for this charge" plus a "total range for full battery", if that's doable. I was seeing "total range" and thinking of whole battery, but it's really "range based on current charge and current driving efficiency". Data analysis can be so tricky.

Take version 2.2 for a drive and see what you think.

I am learning more about Shortcuts every day from working on this - I will probably add an "if then" statement and suppress displaying the 'extra' total range line when start-batt is 100%.

  15. Thanks for the updated shortcut. I updated my version to capture weather data as well with hope that it would help in the long run to see how weather affects the range.

Cool. Watched your video and learned some things around the exact battery and trip odometer!

That’s a pretty neat use of shortcuts too - I’ll try it out!

Fantastic idea! I updated my version to include location-based temp, wind speed, and humidity. I will test it a bit more before releasing the link. I wanted to add dew point, since dew point is selectable data within the shortcuts weather function, but it apparently has not worked for a while. So I just used humidity.

EDIT: Shortcuts provides wind direction in degrees of 360. Not very user friendly. I had a LOT of trial and error to convert degrees to N, NE, E, SE, etc! I finally found someone else’s code snippet and adapted it to my script.

Here's my real run today with a mid-day charge. Considering the change in efficiency I like what it shows.

    Driven: 85 Mi

    Start-Batt: 100%
    End-Batt: 44%
    Mi
    /kWh: 5.25
Total Range (From 100% charge): 151.76 Mi

Total Range (From 100% charge): 151.725 Mi

    ESTIMATED RANGE REMAINING: 66.76 Mi

I’m pretty impressed with these numbers especially since it involved driving from 5,000ft elevation to 8,500ft and back.

Thanks for the shortcut. Out of curiosity, why do you have the input as a decimal vs adding a divide by 100 step in the calculation?

That’s amazing. What mode were you using to achieve that figure? I don’t get anywhere near that, but I only really use mid or sport modes.

This was in mid. To be fair the 30 miles of climbing was a 35-45mph winding canyon so it’s not like we were going freeway speeds.
