Not really an "issue" but a complaint - what IDIOTS would make you use a 589 page PDF Owner's Manual without bookmarks or links in the Index?
Yes, the battery gauge is hideously in need of better calibration. I'm surprised more owners aren't reporting this issue. I had hoped it would 'learn' over time, but that hasn't happened. As I've mentioned before, it's far better to use the numerical readout of mileage remaining for both electric and gas. Those numbers appear reasonably accurate.
It's too bad there isn't some calibration method that can be used as is available with the temperature gauge. Mine was reading about 2-3 degrees high, but I was able to get it pretty much spot-on with the available calibration range.
It's really more calibration of the battery percentage gauge. According to the range estimate change from home to work, and actual miles traveled, my hand calculated battery percentage nearly equaled the iPhone Hondalink estimate of 85% remaining - BUT - the battery gauge in the instrument cluster had not lost a single tick - it was showing 100% remaining.Calibration of the temperature gauge? I'm not sure what you are talking about.
On my 2013 Leaf I never really look at the estimated miles to empty it gives. I use the battery percentage gauge exclusively. Basically, if it takes 40% or less to get somewhere I know I can get home without stress. The closer to 50% I get on the trip out the more stressful the return trip will be. I have a drive this Thursday to a location I go to all the time without too much issue in the winter, but it is so cold right now I am a bit concerned about the range. Such is life with an electric car. At least the Clarity takes the stress away.
Honda does know how to do the "flying bridge" better: witness the 2018 Accord and 2018 Odyssey vs 2018 Clarity
I won't disagree with the classy look, it's just such a sad waste of space, especially given that the drink holders sit under your elbow and the storage bin would barely hold a 1lb sack of coffee. Our Odyssey has a console that comes forward to the seats, larger bin, and still an open space below and under the dash for purse/tablet.Maybe it is all the years driving a Prius, but I like the flying bridge in the Clarity. Probably because it reminds me of the Prius. I also like the wood accents on either side of the gear buttons. I think it looks distinguished.
It's part of the Garmin GPS mapping software. Go into the map and tap the menu/settings bars in the lower right corner. Then scroll down to find the eco features.Where is this fuel economy display located. I have searched high and low for it and nothing.
I filled the gas tank last night. We've driven over 400 miles since we last filed the gas tank. It only took 0.2 gallons. The Fuel Economy readout would have guessed a bit over a gallon. I think this proves the Garmin Fuel Economy is estimating rather than using the car sensors. The 0.2 gallons may well have come from my one time use of Sport mode yesterday.I was paying more attention today, watching for any indication that the ICE came on. We drive only in EV/Econ mode and both my wife and I drive quite conservatively.
I checked the Fuel Economy display (only works when the vehicle is stopped) which said we had used 0.2 gallons since I reset it last night. My first question is I wonder if that is just a Garmin estimate (as it is with dash mounted Garmin units) or is it aware of the real engine and gas consumption. My second question was when, if at all, did the engine actually come on?
I switched to the Energy Flow Screen (Owner's Manual page 215). I monitored it for a while and the engine didn't come on. Then I decided to push the Sport button for the first time since we've owned the car. It didn't take much for the engine to come on, I used sport for less than one minute, then switched back to EV/Econ mode. But the car didn't seem to know how to turn Sport off. The engine continued to run for about 2 minutes. I actually pulled over, turned the car off, then restarted it before the behavior returned to EV/Econ mode.
After a third trip of the day later this evening I'm going to stop at the gas station. The last time we filled up with gas was December 18th after an out-of-town trip. I don't believe (other than my using Sport mode today) we did anything that would have caused it to use gas.
From everything I have observed the engine doesn't come on. From everything the car is telling me I get mixed messages. The Fuel Economy screen tells us we've used gas. The trip screens say we are getting 199 mpg. I don't know what to make of it at this point.
OMG - 0.2 gal - I wish we were still in the days of gas station attendants - could you imagine the look on his face when all he could pump for you is 0.2 gal!I filled the gas tank last night. We've driven over 400 miles since we last filed the gas tank. It only took 0.2 gallons. The Fuel Economy readout would have guessed a bit over a gallon. I think this proves the Garmin Fuel Economy is estimating rather than using the car sensors. The 0.2 gallons may well have come from my one time use of Sport mode yesterday.
Tiralc, my best suggestion to fix your cold problem is to MOVE! I've been in -30 degrees before and I have no interest in ever feeling that again.![]()
