My dealer is OK. But I was surprised that they do not do a walk around with me to check if there are any scratches or something out of the ordinary. It will be a he said she said situation afterward. On top of that, the bay for me to drop off the car is usually crowded with motorcycles.

Today, I spent 3 hours reading my book at Motor City MINI while they did the HV Battery Recall software update, the battery cover replacement, and the 4-year service (brake fluid and cabin filters for $360) on my 2021 SE.

As with the previous software update, I lost my AM radio and I had to go searching the menus to turn the clock screen-saver back on. However, something changed that I didn't expect: the way the fan-speed LEDs are displayed.

Now, when I turn the the fan-speed knob, only the one LED indicating the position of the knob is lit instead of that LED and all the LEDs to the left of it. Is this a setup setting I can change? Can Bimmercode make those LEDs behave the way they did yesterday?

There's a window-wall between Motor City MINI's customer lounge and their shop area. Here's ELEKTRO in the center, just before the technician plugged a long yellow cable into the OBDII port.

On October 6th, my Power Spoke wheels will come out of the basement for the 4th time to replace the Loop Spokes for ELEKTRO's appearance at the local Drive Electric Week gathering. I'm such a nervous driver when the Power Spokes are exposed to the outside world, so full of evil, greedy, concrete curbs! One DEW gathering was on a rainy day, so I didn't change the wheels, I just brought one Power Spoke wheel with me so I could discuss how a designer's asymmetrical styling idea required engineers to design--and MINI to manufacture and distribute--a special appliance to balance this wheel. I also bring before and after photos of the fake hood scoop exorcism I had performed on my electric car 4 years ago.

I think my 2021 has only lit up one LED on the fan-speed knob for as long as I've owned it. I just scanned through all the photos I took of my SE on my phone and couldn't find any evidence one way or another. I'll do some more searching this weekend.

My 2021 SE has always been like this, maybe @insightman did some Bimmercode tweak that was lost to time?
The only Bimmercode change I made was to activate the AM radio. I guess I can live with this single-LED fan-speed indicator. I'd be really bummed if the screen-saver clock had been taken away to make all SEs the same.

FWIW, both my 2023 SE and the 2024 SE loaner presently sitting in my driveway show more lights the more you turn up the fan speed. However, that's only with the AC off - when the AC is on, only one light is illuminated, with which one depending on the fan speed.

THANK YOU! Your newer SEs might behave differently than my 2021, but your suggestion helped me find the answer to my question.

I had never used the HVAC in AUTO mode before; the software update must have turned it on. I turned AUTO off and now all the LEDs up to the current fan-speed indicator LED are illuminated. So the system has two ways to indicate AUTO mode is turned on: by illuminating the AUTO indicator on the knob and by changing the way the LEDs around the knob behave.

Now all I have to do is Bimmercode the AM radio back on and my SE will be just like it was before the update.

Did anyone tried to connect to the car after this update? 1 hour after the update i’m not able to connect my phone with bimmercode or any other program. I’m using enet cable….

You're welcome.

Now, can someone remind me how to get the trip stats (mi/kWh, etc ) showing on the center screen to reset automatically after 6 (?) hours of off time? After the update, they no longer do so - in fact, I haven't found any way to reset them at all.

Yes! While on the Trip Computer page, press left on the control knob to open the option menu on the left side of the page. Then rotate the knob to highlight the second option (Automatic reset), then press down on the knob to activate it. (The teeny tiny tick box in the top-right corner of its icon.)

As far as I can tell, this is the only setting that was not restored with my driver profile. It drove me batty for a day or two.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We just got the recall update at MINI of West Chester, PA (formerly Otto's). We dropped off the car the night before and picked it up at 4 PM the next day. No loaner car was involved. Thankfully there was no drama.

I'm still not used to taking in a car for one specific service, and then in addition there's this major production of whole vehicle check, video or pictures of the process, and a detailed report. My former local mechanic uses the same type of process to try and scam customers.

I miss the old days, but i love our SE. So i guess that's part of the price.

Our 2023 Mini SE went in for the HV Recall and 2 year service on Monday. Service was completed in about 3 hours and the only thing that was lost was one driver profile.

I was given a 2025 Mini Cooper S (F66 ?) as a loaner and I was somewhat dissapointed in the car. In Green Mode, there is a prolonged delay before the car starts to move after a stop (I thought the car was going to stall and instinctively pushed my left down and then realized there was no clutch pedal). Even in Go Cart mode there is an instance of hesitation before the car starts to move from a stop. The car also rode noticeably harsher than our SE. I'm not a fan of the new dashboard layout either. Reminds me too much of the Model 3 I used to have. At least this Mini had HUD. The worst part though is the lack of a physical knob for the fan speed control. All the climate controls are activated via the center touchscreen. I'm sure I would eventually get used to it (finally got used to it in our Taycan Cross Tursimo), but I really miss physical climate control knobs !!! No owners manual in the loaner, but the Monroney sticker was in the glove box and the car had a MSRP in the mid $38,000 range.

Wonder why some dealers can complete the HV Battery Software recall in a few hours and other dealers need the car overnight. My dealer is one of the latter. Only reason I can think of is that they are also doing the earlier recall involving inspection for water intrusion. But my VIN only brings up the 2nd recall. I requested a loaner so appointment is not until early October.

Characteristic of ICE vehicles in general, although MINI does shut off the engine to "save fuel" at a stop which creates a moving delay as it restarts. Once one gets familiar with the instant torque of an EV going back to ICE seems like a downgrade.

One of my Mini's had the fuel saver, but it always restarted the engine as soon as I released the brake or shifted out of neutral to first. Pretty close to instant. They may have changed the way that works. I did notice that the loaner was quite noticeable when restarting. I too much prefer the SE to both the six-speed manual and the automatic (for a raft of reasons).

As do numerous other vehicles these days. No quotes needed, however - the engine only has to be off for something like 7 seconds before the fuel savings are greater than that used at the restart. The delay would have to be really annoying, though.

(Then there was the JCW Clubman I had as a loaner last summer, where you had to keep your foot firmly on the brake when stopped, and would almost instantly surge forward when you released it, as if the idle were set too high. Just as annoying, but in the opposite way.)
