It feels cheap, but is more expensive than the car it is replacing (or closest to for the all electric version). I really don't know what they were thinking.
It's BMW, seems like they basically said "what BMW platform can we sell as a MINI?" Not to mention how completely insane the US market is for giant SUVs. I have yet another friend getting an Ioniq 5 and I think that's a beast of a vehicle (not to mention absolutely ugly), and yet it's a hot seller.

MINI's been targeting younger demographic at least with the SE, one of the first videos for it was very Millenial Generation. And all the Aceman marketing I've seen so far has been targeted that way, not to mention "Spike". Anyone remember the MINIverse game? Looks like they added the J01 and the new Countryman along with the original Aceman.

I still dislike the E-GMP platform. The Koreans tried to be clever with a 2-ply HV cooling system sandwich floor to save space.

Now that the cooling system IS the underbody, let's umm....glue some glass reinforced plastic underneath and call it a day! *Nobody* is going to run over any rocks, building materials, or ice chunks.

One of the unsung features of the F56 SE is the underside armor. As someone who drives on gravel roads every day I've really appreciated not having to worry.

Then there's @Rexsio, who created an additional underbody shield out of clear Lexan--even though his SE has probably never seen a gravel road where he lives in NYC. Perhaps he's worried he might run over a crowbar some miscreant has abandoned in the middle of the road.
At least his SE will see it coming.

Let me get my coat...
This shield is not for decoration is for protection if will be so easy to do it every one should installed but you can’t buy it IMG_1502.webp

I worked out why the J01 looks so.... wrong. It is the missing bonnet scoop. It can't be an S without the scoop. That and the butt ugly rear end.

* lights touch paper, gets popcorn from the microwave and watches what happens :) *

I don't get how, if it's a whole new body and not that of an existing car, they couldn't replicate the F66 front end. Between the bonnet's "character creases" and the disappearance of the clamshell, I can't tell which bothers me more.

The obvious explanation: the J01's conventional hood must cost less to manufacture and install than the F56 clamshell hood.

I think it's for Euro NCAP leg impact (also head or pelvis impact) ratings to have a softer area to land on for pedestrian safety.

Prior to that the bumper geometry had to be more flat (2005 ish??) so the pedestrian would land on the hood instead of being launched in the air doing a triple somersault faceplant.
