What your SE will be worth 3-4 years later when any EV have 250 miles range ?

I'm guessing in a few years there will be some retrofit options to up the range. Of course they may be fairly expensive, given the base value of the car.
 
IMHO, everyone (including many on this forum) seems to be fixated on "range." The SE is, and always will be, a city car.

Why is the SE a city car other than because of the low range? Other MINIs aren't just city cars

I am not in a large city and the range doesn't always work (have to take the ICE backup) but I bought the SE because I like small fun cars. If my small fun car could also get to the local autocross or make it through a whole loop of the fun back roads it would be even better!
 
I just considered this in a panic moment on todays news of longer range MINI Es. While it's a few years out and many unknowns, I took some comfort in the fact that a ton of people believe in the heart and soul of MINI. They look a certain way, feel a certain way, are built in a certain way and in a certain place.

Their entire brand is built on intangibles like emotion, community, culture. People don't buy these because they are the fastest, most practical, with the most features or with the most range. I believe this current generation of SEs will be valued for some time. I find it hard to believe the next generation will retain everything it is today with so much change.
 
Bear in mind that a used Mini SE will be competing with other used EVs.
I believe range will be a factor when it comes to mass market appeal and this value, however… has don’t think the current “new” EVs with better range will depreciate that much, therefore the SE should continue to spot in below them but there’s plenty of headroom.
Comparing a 3-5 year old SE vs new cars at that time is irrelevant as the buyer for a 3-5 year old used EV is not a buyer of a new EV.
 
In my opinion no EV ever will be collector car bc of dead battery 10 -20 years later like all ICE cars hold a value . My 2014 BMWI 3 battery was $ 16000 without labor to replace but 7 1/2 years later was still going 75 miles as new 84 miles range .But I sold that car with 21000 miles only.
Exactly. All EVs now are expensive toys. Can't wait for my Taycan!! hahaha.
 
I have no interest in all those SUV,a Mini SE is only a car with balls ,and my previous i3 was there and Cyman is coming soon which could be my dream car to bad not 911 EV bc Porsche don’t want to down grade iconic design yet to make electric . Taycan 4doors not for me.
i have the MINI SE. I am debating Sedan or Cross Turismo. Will order when Model year 2023 announce.

Let's hope before your Taycan arrives, Porsche has addressed the problems that disappointed this fellow InsideEVs forum member, who's owned a Taycan for more than a year.

One problem he cited that's definitely much better in the MINI Cooper SE is how fast the radio turns on. Sometimes I think my SE's radio sensed me about to push the ON button before I actually touch it--it's like a negative delay. This Taycan owner's radio takes more than a minute to turn on.

Perhaps if he had a better dealer some of his problems could be resolved, but it's too late for him, he's now waiting for a Lucid Air.
 
Also important, will the MINI Cooper SE of 2025 look like the alien turd of the i3? Like many others have said, the form/fashion factor of the 2022 SE is very attractive. This is all conjecture, and you'd be better off getting your Tarot cards read or flipping a coin. Get the car you like and enjoy it! 99% of cars depreciate immediately unless you happen to get one that is a "classic" in 30 years. Buy a house in the Bay Area if you want to make money!! ;)

Infotainment in the VW/Audi/Porsche EVs is laughably bad, unless you’re behind the wheel in which case it is infuriating.
 
That said, I made a video comparing the cost of an SE with even a base model iCE mini where, due to incentives and running cost savings that showed the SE could be worth zero in 8 years and I’d still be better off buying it than a comparable gas car.

How will be 0 $ value after 8 years you can use for chicken cup . I drive for 20000 miles my i 3 2014 I bought I 2016 sold in November 2021 for the same I pay for it in 2016 $ 18000 .

That’s the point, it won’t be worth $0.
But EV haters try to put people off by saying an EV out of warranty will be next to worthless.
So show the math that even if it was truly worthlessness it’s still a better deal financially.
I’m not saying it will be worthless, I’m just pointing out to the idiots who say these things that even if they’re right, they’re still wrong.
 
A lot of people thought that (now) old-style Edison filament light bulbs would be worth a small fortune today, despite their limited life and poor efficiency compared to todays semiconductor (LED) lighting, which has now become pretty much ubiquitous in the lighting market.

ICE vehicles have had their day in the sun, IMHO, so long as EV manufacturers make some less expensive EVs (like the MINI SE) than generally in the market today -- the EV has to be priced within the reach of the mass market. Not everybody can afford a Tesla or electric Audi, for example.
 
Since my first 1993 Civic, I have never purchased a car worrying about the resale value in 8 to 10 years. I get my money out of a car in that time frame (in my mind) and whatever I get at its "end of life" is a nice bonus. I believe there will always be people who want to purchase and mod this body style of Mini, especially if newer battery tech down the road does not cost a huge % of the car's value.
 
Seems to me that if you're worried about the resale value of the car you're about to purchase, you should be thinking about leasing. And, of course, MINIUSA decided not to lease the SE. I've never worried about the resale value of the cars I've purchased, and I've always returned the cars I've leased in showroom condition.
