What did you do to your MINI today?

I’ve got those, too, but with the red & blue Union Jacks. They were a Christmas present to me. I really like the added “stick” my feet have, now; I can get my feet positioned once at the start of a drive and with one-pedal, I don’t have to reposition for nearly my entire commute.

Added my new front grills, for both the radiator and brake ducts. KillAllChrome and SMPS2012 on Etsy. Be sure to get the Cooper radiator grill, not the Cooper S version, as the SE has a rectangular opening.

Have any of you considered the possibility of adding hub motors to the rear wheels? I'm dreaming of a light(er)weight Mini All4. I test drove the new Countryman SE on an autocross course, and it felt like a fat understeering pig (they wouldn't divulge the weight to me at the time).
Inspiration from 7 years ago on a Civic type R:

Well that's disappointing.

FWIW, I brought the issue to the local dealership's attention at the 2 year service, and they at least acknowledged its existence. This is where/when I picked up the recommendation of "exercising" the adjustable steering. My intent is to go back and push harder in the spring, before the 4 y warranty period is over.
As planned, I took the car in on Friday and was quickly provided a loaner. Word today is that they are replacing the steering rack and that I should have my SE back by the end of the week.

I have been quietly following this. I had a little Mazda 2 for about 13 years. Ended up replacing three steering racks. Not totally sure if each one was justified. Going in for the fourth replacement actually had a trained Mazda mechanic (at the dealership, go figure). They simply replaced the shaft. Not sure now if the others were needed. This apparently is a problem on those cars that can be remedied by lubricating.

Indeed, I saw a post from someone who had gone through three replacements on their F56 S..So we'll see if it fixes the problem, or not.

I didn't do anything. However, someone at the dealership charged my car (to 100%), which I can only assume means that the steering rack has been replaced and I will be getting a call to collect it soon.

(Alternatively, they charged the car before initiating the work, but if so, I am not sure why. Surely the 82% it was at when I turned it over would be enough, given that it is a mechanical repair vs., e.g., a software update. Maybe all of the SE's service instructions start with "Fully charge the vehicle, then. . . "?)

Picked up my car from the dealership after they replaced the steering rack (under warranty). Got in, went to drive out of the parking lot, and felt the same knock/catch/whatever. Drove around the building, parked, and spoke with the service manager. Both he and head mechanic drove my car and reported that they couldn't feel it. I then suggested that the service manager accompany me, had him put his hand on the wheel, attempted to illustrate the problem, and . . . nothing!

Hopefully the problem is gone for good, but if so, I am at a bit of a loss as to explain why.

No idea what the explanation might be, but am sharing for the potential benefit of others

ETA: I posted that quickly from my phone last night, so to share a bit more detail, the diagnostic process was a follows:

1. Disconnect wheel and intermediate steering assembly from rack and turn wheel - all smooth.

2. Turns wheels while still attached to rack - notchiness felt.

3. Disconnect wheels from rack and move rack - same as #2.

I therefore can't disagree with their approach or solution. I'm just puzzled as to why the sensation was still clearly there at first, then went away.

Could it be that what really needs more lubrication in situations like this is the steering rack itself, and that my brief drive around the building was sufficient to distribute some grease? Or, perhaps both intermediate steering assembly *and* the rack are sometimes insufficiently lubricated?

What did I do to my Mini?

I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. We had a short but heavy storm with LOTS of hail. I now have a Mini with lots of small dents. I can't begin to count how many. Fortunately, no glass breakage, but the rear wiper blade was broken. It took me forever to find a body shop that was not already busy, and the one I did find took a week to give me an estimate. The estimate was (of course) much higher than the estimate from my insurance company. The claims department contacted me saying that they wanted to total the car, offering to pay the remaining amount due on my car loan, and and more money for a down payment for a new car.

My dealer tells me that they do not have any new SE models, and can't get any (they do have electric Countryman models, which are more expensive and much larger than my SE). They are looking for an SE at other dealers.

I'm trying to get my insurance company to let me keep my SE, but they gave me some story about the car not meeting state regs.

The car still runs as usual, no problems with visibility, and only has 42,000 miles. I had hoped to drive it until the state takes my drivers license away.

I'm waiting for the claims guy to call me again.

I'm sorry for your loss!

MINI USA shows 20 CPO SEs nationwide:

Hopefully one or more aren't too far from you.

Carvana also show 10. So, they're out there!

What a nightmare! Please accept my sincere condolences.

Sadly, not the heavy Countryman nor any other EV available in North America can take the place of your lightweight SE. If only you could tweak your great MINI-news website to discover the forgotten, unsold SE languishing somewhere in a MINI dealership. I hope you can find a CPO replacement.

Speaking of which: I was intrigued by the new VW ID.3 GTI (although not currently slated for North America), at least until I read that it weighs close to 2000 kg. No wonder it needs ~20% more power to go 0-60 in the same amount of time as an SE.
