What did you do to your MINI today?

Today I received the Power Spoke wheel balancing thingy and a MINI digital tire pressure gauge from ECS. The TPMS on the MINI is too sensitive for my dial pressure gauge - impossible to balance the tires!

The nice guys at ECS sent me a $100 off code for a case of wine from Nakedwines.com. Unfortunately I can’t use it (too expensive to ship over the border). Seems a shame to waste it. :(

I barely freaking drive anywhere, and I’ve had no rocks hit my front end while driving. I love my car to death, and pretty much every time I go out to it, I am flicking away bits of dead leaves and grass clippings and evergreen stuff. Whatever this is either happened in the 10 minutes I was in the grocery store (where I found it), or somebody came all the way up my driveway and took a whack at my car somehow. I have checked around 400 clips from my cameras going back to the last time I drove on Saturday afternoon, but haven’t found anything obvious. I am effing pissed. And depressed. You always know that first scratch is coming, but you kind of hope it will be one that you can buff out with a little bit of compound and elbow grease. This one is going to need to go to the body shop. Ugh.

Oh man I feel for you. I used to park badly on purpose so that nobody would park next to me, still managed to get dinged!

That hurts! It looks like an intentional act of stupidity, not an accidental door ding. Much harder to accept than something one would do to one's own car. My profound sympathies.

The gouges are deep. Which body shop do you recommend that I demand Intact pay for? I used to go to the MB place on St-Laurent near Jean Talon but if there’s a recommended place for BMWs I’d go there.

I wouldn’t make the claim. Just pay out of pocket. Carrossier Euro or Auto Mobilia

Oh no! Serious bummer there. I hope it's not a long fix for you (as in takes too long to fix).

My first real damage was two weeks ago with a big chip on my windshield. Got it taken care of a week ago but still see hints of the crack and chip portion. No where near like this!

It’s worse than it looks in the pictures, even the metal at the bottom of the scratches is gouged. I went to Auto Bugatti on CDL next to the airport, they are the authorized BMW, Bentley, Land Rover, Jaguar, and Tesla collision centre for the island of Montreal. And I gotta say, it’s a really nice shop. The advisor who first came out to check said I might be able to get away with not making a claim, but she thought she should defer to the manager, and when he saw it he started shaking his head and said even with a $500 deductible, it will end up being way more than that. They won’t replace the hood, but they will likely call in their PDR guy to level the metal so they don’t have to use any filler, then the entire hood will need to be removed along with the headlight trim, washer nozzles, and belt line cowl strip, and the whole hood will get painted. He also suggested I get the repair authorized by Intact first, then informed them that I will get the repair done in the spring so the new paint job doesn’t get destroyed by our winter driving conditions, and then just put some primer or touch up in the scratches to prevent rust until then. So the next step is to call Intact and get the ball rolling, then set up an appointment for an official estimate for the insurance. I guess I’m pleased with that.

Always costs more than you think! I took my Mercedes to their own repair shop a few times, and the workmanship was impeccable but expensive. That car was a real magnet for reversing drivers, doors being swung open, even tree branches from the neighbour’s yard! Don’t forget to add the cost of redoing the ceramic coating to the insurance claim.

I guess that will be a 2000$ -2500$ claim. Got to love insurance work and it’s hard finding a body shop that won’t touch “cash” jobs for a reasonable price. Sadly now there is going to be a claim against the car. Anyways I keep my deductible around 2500$ because of situations like this. I’ll just pay out of pocket and deal with it. Same with glass etc

if you want a PDR guy he could prob get that out for 100-150$ Gentle Patrick will come to you

Yeah they said not claiming and doing a “good-enough” job was an option, but I let it be known that “good-enough” isn’t good enough for me.

I’m not overly concerned with a claim against it, resale value, CarFax whatever. Only mildly concerned about my premiums, but I think I have forgiveness in this plan.

I opted not to go with Weathertech liners this time because of the insane cost but also I find they don’t fit my F55 well. Especially around the throttle pedal. I emailed them multiple times about the design flaw (to me anyways) and how they don’t fit tight.

doing some research I found a company in Canada called “Findway” I’m like great it will be Chinesium. I emailed them and asked some questions, while produced in China the scanning and fit is done here. I ordered a set and was told I could return them if not happy.

They arrived today and I was so far very satisfied. The area around the throttle is higher and there are actually a “liner”. The edge is higher as well and they fit very very tight in the floor. Total cost was 185$, free shipping and fast. https://www.findway.ca/
