I think I know how BMW/MINI got 4 extra miles on the 2023/24 EPA rating. They are so damn light (under 16 pounds measured by me), but also so thin, especially the side walls.

The increase in manufacturer-estimated EPA range from 110 to 114 miles was probably due to reduced aero drag, resulting from replacing the "air buckets" (fog lights) with slits to direct air flow around the front tires. It was almost certainly not due to changing the OEM tires, because a variety were always used.

The shorter the sidewall, the thinner it can be and still adequately resist flex.

Could be. But all I know is will never go back to the EVO3 in 205/45/17. With 37psi (probably 39 warmed up) the hits I was getting on bumps was not something I want to experience in daily drive.

I am likely going to spend a big buck for Hakka R5 in 195/55/16
That's what I'm running in winter, and they are pretty fantastic. I wouldn't trade their performance to save $100, ever. Perhaps the only better-gripping tire would be the Hakka 10, at the expense of extra noise and lower efficiency.

Did MINI change the SE tires after 2021? I thought the range increase was due to the replacement of the good-looking fog lights with aero-slots (slots that didn't merit carrying over to the J01).

205/55/16 are too large

I run Hakka R5 195/55/16 and they are fantastic

If you want to talk about horrible tires. The Pirelli P7 Elect EV I have on the Fiat are hockey pucks

Yup, I saw them on the spot. I can fit them with the spacers I already have, but don't want them.

The only thing about the R5 is price tag, or lack of promos/rebates. Have you even seen any sale on Nokians? About that Pirelli tire, typically when you see EV at the end, low rolling resistance (and usually poor grip) low performance (e.g. for Leafs and Bolt drivers). Not always of course.

Nokian, like Michelin, has a manufacturer's rebate every autumn. Maybe check next week.
If anybody run on SE Nokian 205/55/16 All weather tires Remedy on 16” rims without any issues bc in NY I don’t need winter tires just a size 205 give me a question bc they come only with this size if is right fit from 195/55/16 on a car now not metter brand just 205/55/16 is not give me any trouble .And Nokian WRG-4 previous generation on Subaru are the best tires I own /wet/ dry/2” snow/slush perfect IMG_1631.webp

Thanks Ssbg58. My speedo seems to be 2mph optimistic. So was my recently sold R56. Yes those Evo3's are overpriced but I have seen them discounted.

cheers

I just had a set of 205/45-16 fitted to some BBS RG-F rims. They may have as much grip in the wet as the stock 16" Hankooks do in the dry. Pretty amazing, anyway. In the dry, they are limpets. I haven't pushed them very hard, but they feel pretty good. The bad: a bit noisy. The really bad: I'm down a good 20% range. These are very high rolling resistance tyres. After a long run, they are quite warm. No wonder Conti ignored my requests for RR data. If you don't mind the range hit, they'll make great hooning tyres. I bought them for wet autocross events. The 340 TW means they will happily get me to and from events.

I've just purchased a used 2022 MINI Cooper SE. It came with 195/55R16 87W Hankook Ventus Prime 2 runflats. Before the snow flies in the fall I'm planning to replace those with some all-season tires. I'm wondering if anyone has experience or comments regarding the Continental TrueContact Tour54. They come in the correct size and seem to be EV friendly and decent for light winter conditions. Thanks in advance for any comments.

That size in 87W is not runflat and is the OE tyre. They are a decent all round tyre. I'm now extremely skeptical of Continentals EV and rolling resistance claims. I got a set of summer ECS02 and lost about 20% range, despite the the ECS being touted as 'low rolling resistance' and 'suitable for EVs'. In the US, neither has any definite meaning, sona manufacturer can that about any tyre. I still have my 'kooks, so have done some back to back testing...
I can tell you that the all-weather Nokian WR-G4 have a negligible range impact and are great in winter. A little weak in wet weather. If I was a state or two further north than NC, I'd be tempted to run them year round. I would highly recommend waiting for an SE driver to tell you about some all season that doesn't hurt range.
I mainly got the ECS02s as wet autocross tyres, and was hoping to also use them as daily tyres.

Thanks for the reply pictsidhe. I really appreciate the feedback.

Runflats are new to me. The tire sidewall on my Hankooks has a star and the letters RSC in a circle. I thought that indicated it was a runflat. Not so?

I checked the Nokian website and it looks like the WR-G4 and WR-G5 are not available in my size. Discount Tire says "discontinued" on the WR-G4.

Thankfully I have a few months to do some research!

IMG_1903.webp IMG_1701.webp IMG_1702.webp. WRG-5 Nokian are all weather tires have snow flake on them not all season bc I can’t get them in 195 I bought 205 but I was worry they can rubs a shocks I put them with 10 mm Spacers but you need longer bolts for installation .In New York I run them from November to April I like them very much without noticing range reduction but I bet they will do better from April to November bc much hotter weather as they designed for all year around .I have extra 16” rims I don’t have to sweep them driving Hankooks through summer .Im seeing them as cheap $127.17 in size 205/55/16 on a Net
