Tire Question

My Hankooks are on the skinny side, and now that I moved to the great white north I am planning on all season replacements.
IIRC in North America, there is no way to determine the rolling resistance for particular tires only sold here. Have
I missed a source for information? I figured everyone here would have the answers.

Here's a thread on "All Season Tires," and a much, much longer thread, "Tires (Summer/Winter/All-Season)." I don't believe anyone has yet found a US source for rolling resistance numbers.

I had found those threads, and have spent way too much time reading, comparing and obsessing.
I was hoping there had been a source for resistance ratings which maybe I had missed. Probably
going to roll the dice and try one, and hope my efficiency doesn't take a big hit.

I use them on 2 cars and I love them SE only winter Subaru all year on SE I didn’t notice range hit as I use them from November to April and in those months we driving slower Hankooks on SE summer . I have those Nokians on 16” with 10 mm spacers as they not avilable in195/55/16 . All season tires are different than ALL WEATHER tires as not many people knows that fact.Nokian WRG-5 Remedy all weather tires made in USA Read about them on Nokian .com All season tires are not design for snow or temperatures below 45’ F.

As a data point, the Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season EV tire provides a bit more range, maybe 5-8%, than the OEM Hankooks summer/performance.

I’ve resorted to asking AI for rolling resistance ratings. I suppose some of the information is helpful for comparison purposes. My biggest frustration is finding good all-weather tires in 195/55R16. I’ve run Pirelli P7 Plus II tires (all-season) for 5 winters (in southern New England) but they are cracking and need replacement. Pirelli no longer makes the non-run flat P7s in 16s. Newer EV tires seem unavailable for 16s. I may opt for an older tire design, the Vredestein Quatrac. I’m not keen on spacers and longer bolts. I don’t drive the SE that much in the snow but a tire that performs well in wet conditions will be helpful. Any thoughts on the Quatracs?

I drive on 16" Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 snow tires, but their 17" all-season Surpass AS01 tire is worth looking at. It's "EV suitable".

As I’m set with tires shoping for next 5 years before they expire in 10 years 2022 SE 32000 miles driving summers with factory Hankooks 16” wheels I have 8 of them why bc I need second set of rims for winter and I was lucky enough to get them on Craigslist in NJ for $400 with 3000 miles on it full set . In 2023 .Nokian on 16” rims for winter as I don’t experience big snows in NY those All weather WRG-5 Remedy are the best tires you can own in light winters conditions . Now let see if some people claim good milage on different tires better than summer performance Hankooks as my car was dealiver a day I pic up Rexsio from dealer . Than show a picture as I do with real driving on a dashboard highway 50% and city as I do for 4 years not theoreticall estimate a range as this is only and always on SPORT mode .with range as factory estimate 114 miles I’m more than happy how my Rexio is performing

I found a few brand-name all-season tires online. Walmart is selling Hankook Kinergy PT All-Season tires in our size (I have two sets of Loop Spokes for winter and non-winter). With a name like Kinergy, they MUST have low rolling resistance.

Discount Tire sells Yokohama Avid Ascend GT All-Season tires, but that name doesn't scream low rolling resistance like Kinergy does.
Discount Tire also sells Toyo and Pirelli P7 all-season tires in our size. These Discount Tire links are for my Ann Arbor store, so I don't know if they apply or will even work everywhere. FYI, Discount Tire originated in Ann Arbor in 1960, but they're not based here anymore.

We have the Quatrac Pro, which has been replaced by the Quatrac Pro+
on our other Mini, R56. I can’t say how well it does in snow, as I really didn’t get a chance to really drive in much. I will say that I drove through a lot of standing water, as it easily flooded where we lived in NC. They were rock solid. I’m not a super aggressive driver, but I do push them and they handle everything well

Personal experience or was there a study? I'd be really surprised to see 5% on normal roads with normal driving conditions. I'd just go with the traction/tread that works best for the area you will be driving. Lower RR tires have a tendency to be hard, and slick. The only way to lower rolling resistance is to reduce the traction footprint. Since you are not putting bicycle tires on the car, and for me at least I want grippy tires, it starts to get a little moot. YMMV, it's your money and effort.

For what its worth, long term observation, but not test rigor. I am assuming that even though the guess may not be accurate, the %difference would be a useful metric

My conservatively driving spouse commutes roughly 55 mile round trip a couple times a week. I plug the SE into my level 2 EVSE after every trip and notice the guessometer when I start charging and when it finishes as it is displayed in big fat letters. Since replacing the tires, the range guess typically has ~ 8 % more remaining when initiating the charge and near 10% more in the range guess after the charging to 100%. In 80 degree summer weather the 100% charged guess is now typically 126 to 128 miles, 48 miles when she returns. The Hankooks (last year) was 115- 117 and 45. It drops off in 30 degrees weather of course, but the relative % is consistent.

She would probably get close to that range guess, but I'd never see it

The route she takes is about half 45 mph country roads and half 70 mph highways. The tires are filled to the same tire pressure.

When I scroll through the mini app charging history it seems this August it used 18kWh per trip, last August 19kWh, but I think last August was warmer than this August, don't think we used the house AC as much.
