Sport Mode -all the time!

I can confirm this, no brake lights even at 4 chevron regen. The regen brake level without the brake being pressed is well below the threshold where it would be legally required.

However, ACC will activate the brakes. Driving down steeper hills or if it slows for a vehicle it is following the brakes might illuminate.

-I have the full range of acceleration available, without having to search for a button in case I need speed suddenly
-I turn on regeneration and it stays on. One pedal driving is the best, especially since my previous car was a stick shift and I downshifted going downhill or to slow down a lot
As I said, if you avoid jackrabbit starts, sport mode is just as efficient as Eco.

Anyone else like Sport all the time?

Just started trying this. After a week I'm sold: improved throttle response, holds regen level, improves EV range by 3 to 5 miles, zero issues keeping ICE off. And I was surprised to see it stays in Sport when you switch to HV. Only wish I have is that the car would remember Sport as last mode and go to it when turned back on. But I bet a software update could fix that.
 
Am I the only one who doesn't like the sudden jolt of regen every time you let off the accelerator in Sport mode? To me it makes for a much less enjoyable driving experience compared to the smoothness of acceleration and deceleration in EV mode. On my Clarity, in Sport mode with 4 chevrons, it literally "hops" when you let off the accelerator.

I would much prefer they tie regen to brake performance and let you lock it in so when you do hit the brakes the extra regen occurs as you are braking.

I did the chevron test with my wife driving behind me and she said the brake lights came on when I got to four chevrons. I don't recall if I was in Sport mode or Eco mode at the time, or if that would even make a difference.

Interesting, what speed were you driving?

It is probably smart enough to illuminate based on how quickly it is decelerating, maybe my test was too low of speed (judging based on if signs light up behind me at night).

The Clarity has relatively weak regen in Sport. The i3 or Bolt EV in L has much stronger regen on pedal lift.

They already do this. Watch the power meter (line around dash) when you brake. Do this after you have driven at least a few miles, it won't regen fully charged. Most regen occurs while you are braking with the pedal but the car seamlessly blends regen and friction brakes. It allows higher amounts than with the Chevrons, at least from my experience. The power needles moves further into the green recharge area.

I just came to the same conclusion.... and I’m going all out now using AC!!!

This was on a 40mph road with lots of traffic lights, so I was probably going 40-45mpg at most. I found out the other day that it won't go to the 4th chevron unless you are going below 60mph. It will just blink a few times and go back to three.
 
I suspect Sport mode doesn't stay enabled for regulatory reasons to do with the advertised range and economy (the same reason why Nissan got rid of the 80% charge setting on the Leaf); while some people may be able to get more EV mileage on Sport, it probably reduces mileage on the standard EPA test cycle over running in Normal mode.

If you're in SPORT Mode and you select full regen, do the brake lights come on whenever you let off the accelerator?
 
I also just tried this and I definitely agree the pedal response feels way better and so does the acceleration - I like it!

One quick question to those who have explored Sport mode - can you fully reset the regeneration back to normal Drive? Seems like the moment you hit the paddle shifter you're in D(M) mode, and repeatedly smashing the + button never puts you back to normal (D).... just at 1 chevron. Funny thing too is that if you're just driving after switching over to sport and press (+) it knocks you down to 1 chevron.

You can eliminate regen by holding down the + paddle for a few seconds or clicking sport mode off (then on again if you want)

Does holding down the - paddle give you max (4 chevron) regen (or in Honda parlance, max deceleration)?

Funny that for the Ioniq EV, long press on the + paddle give you max regen
 
I firmly believe that a single chevron is the same as no chevrons. While decelerating, I can't feel any difference when I use the + paddle to display one chevron. I'm certain that's why the first pull on the - paddle gives you two chevrons (and a detectable increase in deceleration). Therefore, to cancel the optional levels of regen you can hold the + paddle for a few seconds to erase all chevrons, or pull it enough times to display one chevron--you end up with the same default regen.

Agree. Normal driving without touching the paddles seems to be the same as one detent. Would be nice if holding the paddle would increase the levels rather than having to pull-release-pull-release-pull.

The car is already highly customizable for settings but there are probably two dozen more vehicle behaviors that we'd like to make customizable via the system menus.
 
I personally would like to have a setting that keeps brake hold turned on at all times and the button then turns it off instead of the other way around as it is now. Brake hold is a really nice feature that I've never had on a car before and most of the time I forget that it's there until it's too late.
 
Loaded question time - does regen really give you much additional battery life? For a while I thought so, but now when going full regen I pick up 0.3-0.4 of a mile and LOSE 0.7-0.8 accelerating back to 30 mph. It's kind of like the HV mileage range thing - is it really doing anything?
