RIP F150-Lightning

Yeah, it's a great truck. My son has one. But they were losing big bucks with it, and with EV sales down further, made sense to stop it now.

Yeah, big question now about Ford's EV future. My son bought a Lightning a year ago. Now it's a unicorn. I don't know if that is good or bad for existing owners. It is a great truck, owners love it (from their forum). Will be interesting to see what that does to used truck prices. There should be lot of them coming off lease in 2026.

The Lighting is a great vehicle, but it doesn't really fit the demographic who want to tow things long distances. Ford should have made a smaller EV truck, like a Ranger or Maverick.

Ford's new EREV (EV with range extender gas engine) sounds to me like it's going to be a failure. Vehicles will cost more to make because of the complications of adding a gas engine, and I've read the towing capacity is greatly reduced because of the limitations of the range extender engine. Meanwhile the cost of batteries is on the cusp of significantly dropping, so likely around the time the EREV platform comes to market EVs will start to be cost competitive with ICE.
