Rim thread (Winter size)

I noticed the Clarity has the same size rims, bolt pattern and offset as the civic. Do you think we could go to a 215/50/17 winter tire. The thinner tire will be more effective on the snow and ice. The ratio matches up nicely.

I usually do go once inch down as long as the ratios match up. I guess rims for the Civic are cheaper as well!
 
Sorry to bring up the topic of winter again but I've been looking at getting some rims and tires so I have a question about the TPMS. Is the TPMS integrated with the ABS system or do I have to get sensors on the rims? I couldn't find anything in the manual about it.
 
I will be doing so in the next month . Going to figure out rims first. I'm leaning to 17s , 215/55/17. The ratio is spot on with this size .
 
Remember the Clarity weighs over 4000 pounds with over 55% of the weight in the front. Make sure your rims and tires can handle that weight.
 
It will be interesting to see how much noiser will the car get with a different sets of rim since the original rim is supposed to design to suppress some road noise
 
Here are the specs for the OEM Clarity tire/wheel. If you go down a size in wheel to a 17", make sure the brake calipers will clear the smaller rim. I always use the same size as OEM for winter tires to make sure the load carrying capacity is not compromised. My gold standard for winter tires is the Michelin X-Ice in OEM size. YMMV.

The OEM tires are:


Michelin Energy Saver A/S

Bolt pattern: 5-114.30 (inset 50)

Lug nut: 90304-SA0-981

Valve assembly: 08W16-S47-A0004

Honda accessory replacement alloy wheel: 08W18-TRT-100
 
The TPMS sensors are now about how fast each tire spins and a flat tire not rotating as fast. It’s all external to the tire!

I have a similar system in my egolf. When you switch tires you have to reset the “starting tire pressure” and then the system monitors it from there.

Following to see what the specs are for a winter tire, I’ll be switching to winters as well.

I've attached a page I was given by the dealer when I picked up my Clarity in June. Looks like Honda recommends 215/55R17 tires for the steel rims. Part number for the steel rims is 08W17-PC4-300.

I purchased a set of Yokohama IG52C in the above size, on the above rims from the dealer when I picked up my car. I'll know in a couple of month's time if there are any issues, but I don't expect there to be based on the attached page I received from Honda.

Interesting chart. It looks the Accord (for '18 and '19) share wheel specs with the Clarity, as do all three years of the CR-V on the chart.
