Well my insurance company just sent me a courtesy e-mail for notice of recall. Perhaps I'll take a leisurely stroll to the letter box to see if BMWNA sent a recall notice.

Looks like your HV battery is fine and you have the extra HV safety mode installed.
I’m very happy 1/2 way bc in 1 1/2 hr they install new updates only which I wonder if this can detect insulation problem as I keep SE in dry garage how new updates keep with moisture or water detections and I’m crazy enough to install 2 smoke detectors in garage as for 7 years i3 was parking there an issues with battery’s never raise and as I’m old dud would love to see my granddaughter I pay more attention to those problems than younger guys to be preoccupied with kids and work . At my dealer I was the only first raise an issue HV battery and fortunately the have a updated program/ fix few days before I did appointment and obviously nobody send me Email or contact me about SE’s going in flames

I am afraid now that pre-owned SE will drop in price by a lot. But it is OK for those that are on a lease. Monthly payment will be the same and when the lease is up, they can just walk away.

Probably had to do with the BMW i3 resale & residuals from 2014-2021 so it was predominately cash/finance only. That was really until the Inflation Reduction Act came into effect. Leasing was really one of the only ways to circumvent the battery component and critical materials requirements to access the $7,500 tax credit.

For everyone who is disappointed about the fact that MINI hasn't contacted them yet, it is important to realize that procedures for recalls are dictated by the government. (I have previously seen the exact same scenario play out in another industry, with consumers upset but the company's hands being tied.)

And even then it took some months before MINI decided to start offering the SE on lease, following the lead of other EV manufacturers.

If it had happened immediately or at least in short period of time, I might have just converted from order from a purchase to a lease, rather than cancelling it (only to stumble upon a used SE that met my desires 6 months later).

Well BMW did decide to conduct a voluntary safety recall, but rather than have the recall as viewed as an overabundance of caution, the optics and the narrative have gone in multiple directions. Now consumers are faced with an existential EV crisis and an uphill battle to debunk false equivalencies.

I just don't understand that why the service department did not know this issue back in July when the error message appeared.
My tech and SA chuckled in my face and said, "Trust us, if there were a battery recall we'd know about it before any dumb website," then rolled their eyes. Then they performed the "recall campaign SME programming" (see above).

The reason BMW or MINI aren't reaching out yet is because they've already informed the NHTSA and TC that owners will be informed by mail on October 7th.

As you the smartest guy on forum can you slow down with your Ph.D approach

and try to explain in simple language to members when they don’t know how to do change a wipers
The last words describe me. My 1-year old SE's wiper leaves water marks right in front of my eye and cutting the view with it, and I have been enduring it bc I don't know how to change wipers / too lazy to talk to my dealer about it...

I'm taking our SE in on the 16th for the recall. When I called to make the appointment, the dealership knew nothing about it..until they put in the VIN into their system. At least they said they could do the update.

Our Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo also has an open recall for possible brake hose failures. I called the dealer and they have no idea when parts will become available. They are hoping by end of 2024 or early 2025 !!! Currently have 3 open recalls for Taycan (brake hose, update bcm and replacement of EVSE charging cable).

Had an interesting experience with this recall.

My car was booked in on 22/7 for warranty work to replace a refrigerant pressure sensor. The dealership told me I'd have the car back early afternoon. However, come early afternoon they told me there was recall for the battery that they are working on. Just before closing they advised there was a software update that would run into the next day. Sure, ok, no problem I guess.

Having not heard anything, I contacted them at 14:00 the next day. After some time they got back to me telling me that "a special tool is not required that is currently on back order from Germany", and they would contact Mini Technical to see if the car can be returned in the interim.

Next update was 13:00 the next day when I was advised the car couldn't be released as it was "a safety recall" and the tool was due to arrive the beginning of the following week, and apologising for any inconvenience. I replied explaining there was obviously significant inconvenience, as the 1/2 day they needed the car initially had suddenly become more than a week, that I did not give explicit permission to begin the recall, nor did they even tell me they were starting it. All exacerbated by them beginning work without having all the required tools available - which as we all know is at the top of the recall instructions to the dealers, the time it will take, and any tools required.

I got daily, "still waiting for the tool" updates, until it arrived on the Tuesday, but then there was apparently another fault they were working through with Mini Technical, before on Wednesday 31st (9 days elapsed now), they completed the work, charged it up fully and returned it to my driveway.

All good since recieving it back though, no problems at all, but it was unnecessarily frustrating...

Many years ago BMW gave me a loaner car as my car was in for work. The work didnt go as planned and it was at the dealer for a month. In that month I put 4000km on the car and even told the SA “hey im going on vacation with the car is that okay”

“ya sure!

Ah, well, I couldn’t get a loaner - as my license wasn’t from a country that I could swap when I moved here, though I had initially driven for 25+ years in a country that was. So after obtaining a license here, I’m classed as a “new driver” in my first year, so no loaner or rental. Which made it all the more annoying!

Adding another minor anecdote to the "dealers are sh!t and don't know anything about EVs" file: as I reported above, on Friday my car was in for the two-year scheduled maintenance inspection, and they managed to do the BMS update while it was there. I drove home in traffic, and then it was pretty much parked for the weekend. Yesterday I went for a 118 mile drive, and noticed it felt a bit squirmy, like I was on snow tires. Driving in beautiful, mild conditions on back highways at 40 to 60 mph, I thought I'd get home with at least 25% SoC, but ended at 14%. This morning I had the air hose and pressure gauge out for the Subaru, so I decided to check the 17s on the MINI. Again, it had just been at the dealership for the two-year maintenance and inspection... and I found out this morning that the fronts had been set to 32 psi and the rears to 30 psi, and not the 38/35 on the door jamb sticker – nevermind the 40/37 it was at when I left it with them. I just get the OEM blades because aftermarket ones don’t make contact all the way to the end on the passenger side; curve isn’t right. Not a big deal, though, if you want to save a few bucks.

Lol I've changed dozens (hundreds?) of wipers, and these are maybe the easiest, but I couldn't be bothered and had the tech do it during my 2-year. Stupid me thought they'd at least comp the "work." Nope, got charged $18 labor plus taxes. Smfh
