We went shopping for a standard Hybrid and ended up with the Clarity PHEV, which we intend to drive for at least 10 years.
Take the Accord for a good test drive before pulling the trigger. I haven’t driven one. It is my understanding that the Accord Hybrid operates, all the time, in the same way as the Clarity when in HV Mode. The ICE powers a generator that provides electricity to the traction motor. Some Clarity owners have found this mode to be one of the vehicle’s most annoying features.
Granted, the Accord has a more powerful 2.0l engine which drives a more powerful generator. The Clarity, on the other hand, has a 17kWh battery, compared to a 1kWh battery in the Accord, which allows the car to operate as a BEV with ~47 miles of range.
Also, consider the cost of fuel where you intend to operate the car. With the Accord, your only option is gasoline. With the Clarity, you’ll have a choice of gasoline or electricity.
