Kalimba would make more sense. I thought it was a like music box but the resonance wasn't quite right for me.

Have you detected the Morse code for M-I-N-I in the start-up sound. I can't hear the M and the first I, but can hear the last two letters: -. and ..
 
These sounds are mandated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Board in the US. They require the noise to be a certain sound pressure level and to be active up to 25 mph, and I believe the backup beep is required by it as well. Various EVs have different ways of disabling it. My Kia Niro requires a speaker to be unplugged and doing that means partial removal of the front bumper shroud. The noise when driving doesn't annoy me so much, but the backup beep does - especially in a parking garage where the sound echoes.

I've never disabled mine because if something were to happen - either hitting a pedestrian, or even another car with it disabled would probably land you in a law suit that you wouldn't win.

MINI would be dah dah, dit dit, dah dit, dit dit. So the M and I morse has to be hidden behind that "sunrise" sound. I slowed it down about 200%.

Maybe someone with the proper hardware can record the sound and slow it down for improved analysis.

The Morse code totally passed me by. My hat is off to your superior ear!

Let's not forget about busses, they're notorious for creeping up as the noise generating part 30+ feet behind the impact part. No noise generation and another example of the double standard..... silly considering the urban environment they operate in.

Auto Stop Start (on ICE) is usually instantaneous, I wouldn't call that fraction of a second enough to alert a pedestrian in time.

All or nothing, or it's not really an argument from my vantage point.

Just for fun I took a look at the waveform. It's too hard to listen for the M&I in _ _ N I morse. You can see the dahs and dits at 2.4k-2.8k Hz range.

I need a noise of Porsche 911 taking off which I can control with switch any time I need it any idea how to do it? One day I rip off front and rear noise makers from my SE for sure .wait for warmer weather to go under a car .New York
 
I’ve been listening out for when the pedestrian warning noise is active and on my SE it doesn’t make a sound when you’re at a standstill at traffic lights or a junction. The warning sound is there when you slow to a stop and when you set off until you get to around 20-25mph but it’s definitely not there when stationary unless it’s ridiculously quiet. I wonder if the rules are different in the US than they are in the U.K.?
 
In France (act least) it's active as soon as you shift the gear to D or R. Doesn't matter if the car is moving or not.
If you're outside in the street you might not hear it, but in a quiet garage you will hear it.
 
Does the volume reduce at a standstill? I can clearly hear the noise when I’m moving, but not at all when I’m sitting still in D or R.
 
On my SE the sound is on as soon as you engage D or R. I have not noticed if it comes back on when coming to a stop at a light or stop sign - but that would make no sense if it failed to come back on under 25 mph. I'll check next time I'm out.

My 2021 has the sound in D or R at all speeds below 25 mph (including 0 mph), at the same volume (as far as I can tell), regardless of how much driving I have done.

Did you happen to have your foot on the brake? I wonder if it's only active when the SE can move. I actually checked mine, by turning on the car and getting out (leaving seatbelt buckled). Sure enough, it makes the noise when stationary but not in park. I didn't test anything other than forward (drive), though.
 
I tried it again while out this evening and I still can’t hear the noise when stationary whether I have my foot on the brake or not. Both windows and sunroof open to listen. As soon as I start moving I hear it again. I don’t have a garage to try it in unfortunately.
Is it as noticeable to you guys at a standstill as it is while moving? I might get my wife to do a drive by this weekend so I can stand outside of the car to listen.

My wife is louder than this SE making noise!
 
I think it is very noticeable and very loud. As soon as it is in gear, it starts making noise.

There are two speakers too. There is one in the front for when in drive and one in the rear for when in reverse.
