Pedestrian Warning Noise

Bimmercode allows you to choose from 4 WAV files, which have slightly different sounds and various volumes.
I couldn't find the category for selecting a different sound. I checked with MINI, i3 and i8 options. Wherever it is, I guess the sounds are already in the system, just like choosing a Rolls Royce opening screen. But that's just a guess...

I went through them all, and recorded each one, but then discovered because CarPlay was on it recorded from inside the car. Needless to say, all sounds the same from inside!

What I noticed was the Wave File 3 and 4 were lower pitch, so less shrill. The UNKOWNs were all JUST in reverse. So if you selected one of them you wouldn't have to turn off each time you drove, as long as you were fine with a sound in reverse. "Custom value" lets you identify a number, but I didn't mess with that.

After driving with unknown value, I can happily say this is my sweet spot. I like the rear movement warning, but don’t need the forward sound. This seems like the perfect setting, will be programming #6 button for something else! [emoji1303]

Whatever reduces truckers rolling coal at the stop lights is good for me!
Don't coal-rolling truckers use an electromagnetic sensor to detect EVs rather than listening for the pedestrian warning sound? :)

Nah, they just love to roll coal whenever.

While most of the vitriol is reserved for the Tesla drivers, I'd rather not add more lithium dendrites to the thermal runaway (fuel to the fire).

LOL [emoji38] we only hate exhaust-spewing petrol-heads. But I like your verbiage, Sir!! This is seriously the most enjoyable forum I’ve ever been a part of!!!

Do you know if those 4 WAV files are already part of the SE's software or do they come with Bimmercode? The obvious next question is can we expand that catalog?
I assumed they are already part of the SE software, since there were already different sounds for fwd/rev.

How cool would it be if you could upload your own WAV files?

Would be cool but the fun police NHTSA will probably step in.

Not sure if this is universal MINI behavior or not, but my 2022 SE pedestrian sounds do NOT play when the vehicle is not moving IF the selector is in PARK mode. Makes sense to me.
Our 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-In makes the warning sound only when it's moving. Why would a car need to make warning sounds when stopped in Drive but not when stopped in Park? Honda brought the 2020/21 Clarity into conformance by having it make the warning sounds when stopped Drive, like the SE.

ICE vehicles make warning sounds all the time especially while idling at the lights. They are also equipped with rear pedestrian warning whilst moving forward. ;)

A vehicle stopped while in Drive can accelerate at any time with little-to-no notice to nearby pedestrians (especially true for EVs, with immediate torque and/or one-pedal driving). A vehicle in Park can't do that--it must first transition to Drive or Reverse.

It's a double standard with ICE and may hybrids. I'm not aware of any pedestrian noise generated with use of Auto Stop/Start while stopped. Maybe they're just now implementing it... I'm not sure.
