More paint failure on Clarity

It worked out. I was confident that with persistence that a resolution would present itself.

I Love the car. The experience was not enough to change that. Considering the State of Texas $2500 rebate and the $7500 tax credit, this was an absolutely insanely good value.

Heck, the City of Austin even paid half of the cost ($1200) of a level 2 charger and the cost to install it, including digging the trench to get the wiring out to the driveway. Now we are future-proofed if the next car is PHEV or full electric.

Awesome incentives in Austin and Texas. Here in Mi not so much. Only power utility will give us a small break on EV rates. Nothing from the state.

I was pretty shocked that Texas even had a rebate program but even if I only had the federal tax credit, it would have still been worth it.

My electricity is not cheap by KW hour, but the city does have a $30 monthly unlimited home charge rate (Midnight to 3 PM) but I don't use enough electricity to justify using the unliminted charge program. I did have the install done to include a second meter box (required for the program) if I ever get a second PHEV or full electric.

For now though, I figure that I am still having lower "fuel" costs than in the Gen 3 Prius and I worked hard to squeeze miles out of a gallon in the Prius. Beating EPA standard is pretty easy in the Clarity.

The charger incentive is Austin only. If you happen to live 34 miles from Austin, you're out of luck The state rebate was helpful, though.

I'm curious if @Eddgie and @petteyg359 were able to submit the Texas rebate with paper plates or did you have to wait until you got the metal plates. I just bought mine in Austin and want to get that Texas paperwork going!

I took mine in person up to the TXDot office. It is up off of I35 a couple of miles north of 183. I dropped mine at the counter.

Double and triple check the application requirements. Some of my paperwork did not have dealer signature on some of the paperwork, so I had to drive back to the dealer to have it signed.

There is a lot you need to submit, so read the instructions carefully.

Your Tax ID is just your regular SSN.

Took mine about 9 weeks to process.

I don't remember the building but the suite is ground floor across from the entry atrium. I said counter, but as you walk in the door there is a reception desk to the right side of the entry area. I gave mine to the lady there and she checked that I had two copies and the necessary documents. Very nice.

Not that I think mailing it would have been a bad thing, but I just wanted to make sure it got there. Two copies of everything and again, double check that someone from the dealer signed all of the documents the dealer provides. Mine provided the state application form already but they had not signed the sales agreement. I caught that before I brought in my application. I don't know if it would have mattered, but I decided that it was better to get it ahead of time than to have it rejected a month after submitting.

Again, long check list of documents that you have to include and I encourage you to read it carefully.

I think there's just one lady in the office processing these. If you screw up, she'll call you and let you know what you need to fix, so don't worry too much.

I'm sure anywhere in TX is cheaper than lots of the rest of the country. Here in Ct its just under $.18 per kw-hr.

Do you know if Austin energy still has the program that allows you to pay a monthly fee to use unlimited public charging? From what I was told the fee is just added to your utility bill.

By the way what are they charging for electricity now?
