Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Gets Official EPA Rating – 22-Mile Electric Range, Just 25 MPG

25 MPG, after the battery's range has been reached, isn't awesome. This may even explain the seeming hesitance of the company to introduce it to the North American market. In other markets, this range may be quite enough, but here n America, customers will have to see if the electric range is enough to boost efficiency for their usage pattern.

The combined fuel economy of the non-PHEV Outlander is 27 mpg, though there is a GT version that only gets 22 mpg.

25Mpg, ? a bit pessamistic isnt it? mine is averaging well over 50, actually its 78MPG over the past 2 years i have owned it.

Good to hear you're getting a better result, though as I stated, this is the gas engine only mileage result. Its official overall rating (with the battery efficiency included) is 74 MPGe.

i think almost all owners in Europe and Australia get well over the published figures. but seeing those numbers on the windscreen sticker might deter some buyers from purchasing a plug in Hybrid.

I test drove the Outlander PHEV. The size is just perfect. Lots of storage in the rear. The rear seats tilt back like our Lexus. Getting in and out is much easier than the Lexus RX 350.

Nice! How did it feel to drive? Enough power? I imagine it handles well enough for a crossover, but I willing to be corrected.

Everything is good except the lease price. The wife drives less than 4 miles/day. It checks all the boxes.
Heated seats.
Roomy interior.
Cargo space.
Comfortable ride.
Automatic emergency braking.
No gas station visit.

The only negative is burning gas on road trips. I rather spend hour charging than to burn gas.

We'll wait until the Kona and Niro comes out. The wife is willing to give up the Clarity BEV for the Outlander PHEV. The Kona might be too small for her taste.

I'm not totally clear on how different in size the Niro and Kona will be, though I believe the Kona will be a bit bigger. There's a video in this thread >here< going around the exterior and interior of the Kona. Back seat seems a bit small, but other than that, it seems like it might be fine.
