I also liked having the Ford guy on. Very informative, and nice to see their interest in customer interaction. And yes, would be nice to have other top EV execs on as well.
 
Darren represented Ford very well, enjoyed that . Glad to see they actually take an interest in feedback via this and other forums.
Maybe in the future... a "fireside" chat with Mary Barra (GM) or alternately Jae Hoon Chang (Hyundai);)

:eek:. Put them in the hot seat, as it were.

The elephant in the room are the issues with the charging network(s). I would have thought that EA might want to try and get ahead of it or spin it or something. But we get crickets.

I would want someone that is in the know about things. Not some propaganda machine.

We here in the US are feeling a little jaded by the lack of information on several things.
Software updates, hearing of coolant pump failures to name a few.
We need a boost of confidence by those who sold us the ID.4.

I don't know of any production product that Ford has coming that would be in a similar performance bracket as Plaid.
 
I worked for years at GM in advertising. They are super secretive about their ads and stats. They do it to the point of stupidity. At the time GM was by far the biggest internet advertiser in the world, but no one knew it. We were literally double the size of the next largest, but GM would never say so, and I would have been fired for telling anyone. Luckily the statute of limitations has run out...

But that's probably why they were so weird about the Lyriq. It is super disappointing. I would have considered buying one, but this moves them way down the list.

Good morning,

Tom made a really good point in the last episode about the high level of dependence EVs have on their 12V batteries. I am not very handy so I’d like to know if there are any good tutorials online that either you, Tom or any of the other Inside EVs team members recommend for new EV owners to watch to explain how to replace a dead battery. I had that issue happen to me a few years back with a PHEV and I had to have it towed.

It will depend a lot on the car manufacturer.

At the end of the day, sourcing a replacement 12V battery might be the hardest part - they probably won't be in stock at your local auto parts store. Heck, you might have to wait for the dealer to get them for you.

Some car manufacturers require that a new battery be "adapted" to the car - it usually requires specialized software to do this. Some have said it was AGM batteries that sort of are the source of this, and I don't know whether EVs are afflicted with this nonsense.
 
I think the issue with 12v batteries is that they are always at 100%. In an ICE they get a big hit every time the starter runs. I'm guessing sitting at 100%, and always being charged is hurting them. We know that's bad for our big batteries and it is bad for our phones too

With all the technology on the vehicle it should be easy to add a warning of sorts to alert the owner of a battery that is not holding charge.
