Adapters will always be less reliable than a dedicated cable and connector. Tesla is into reliability.

A few truths about a large proportion of the population:
1. People are lazy
2. People are selfish
3. People are ignorant

Just 1 of these characteristics is enough to cause ICEing.

We can now add a 4th:
People are radically political

Years if not now decades of lobbying and propaganda from legacy auto, oil firms and who knows who else is a tough thing to fight against. Simple things like wearing a mask or not, even if it’s someone else wearing one and not the person themself, is a major signaling issue to some. You have to pick a side. For everything.
Hybrids represented conservation, not overt masculinity and consumption which are sadly a big part of American culture. Do you really think all these people on the roads actually need their pickup trucks and SUV’s? I mean, how did life go on before the 90’s then?
Marketing and movies pushes going to the gym, get ripped, drive a badass big truck like a tank so no-one will mess with you. put truck nuts on it! Lift it in the air and put bigger tyres on it to be even taller and conquer the outdoors and be a hunter. Cars are for weaklings! Caring about pollution? Man up and take your toxic fumes like a man! Don’t like football? Weakling!
And now there are smug license plates and stickers on these EV’s?
And now these EV’s are faster than my all American Hemi-compensator-v8?!
My way of life is changing. I can’t be in the wrong side, they’re wrong!

Now add in that someone is telling you what to do, what to drive, how you should care about others and the planet.
And the sheep that follow and believe this green commie nonsense get their own special parking spot near the front?
I’ll park my truck in it, that’ll show ‘em! What are they gonna do? Face up to me? Me with the big truck? Nah! And the cops and the store won’t do anything either.


And this children is why parking in an EV charging spot but not actively charging (charger screen can show a 15minute grace period after charging ends) should be a towable offense, yes even on private property. Start hauling these vehicles away with $400 fines to get them back and it will soon stop.
As with kids, if there’s no penalty for bad behavior it will continue. If people behave like kids treat them like kids.
 
Here's a new one: yesterday someone blocked my exit from a charging spot by parking his pickup across my back bumper. The parking lot was nearly empty so I can't believe it wasn't deliberate. I caught up with the little pr1ck and gave him some words...
 
No attempt to plow only the EV charging spots (rest of parking lot was cleared), and there's over 6" of snow in the spot so it's inaccessible. I nicely let the manager know how disappointed I was and he was apologetic, so that was positive.

This has been the main Plugshare photo for a Chevy dealer in Danville, VA for just over two months now. It seems the service department likes to use the charging spots rather than walk an extra 30' from a regular space.

I'm amazed that they haven't put a Bolt out there so that it isn't their main Plugshare photo. The fact they haven't is not a good advert...

They haven't responded to my email asking if this was deliberate and they don't want to allow public charging, or just a lazy employee. My Mini has short range, the only fast charger within range on a trip being ICEd is a major delay on a trip. It is listed as a public charger 24/7. I was there Sunday evening.

I was 6" from the SUV, the cable was pretty tight, but I did charge. I would have been at a level 2 for several hours to make the next fast charger home. I got to this one with 4% battery after a zap and zip at a level 2 a few miles away.

Car dealerships are important charging locations in these early days. If they were a little more considerate about it, they'd sell more cars... Maybe half seem to allow public charging and don't ICE their spots with service vehicles.

I am in NC, there is no state penalty here for ICEing charging spots. There may be in a year or two. I'm all for a $500 fine and towtruck.
