Called Hyundai Canada. The person I spoke didn't seem open to any form of compensation, buyback or even loaner vehicle. She told me they are expecting batteries this fall, but that the pandemic is slowing things down. And that my only option is waiting for the battery.
Currently on the fence whether I should be taking this positively (looks like I will definitely be getting a new battery) or negatively (us Canadians are getting shafted with no buyback option).
I just got off the phone with Hyundai Canada as well. It was a different fellow than the lady I talked to before (individual people seem to be assigned to specific cases). I made it quite clear I wasn't happy with how she left a message with our child yesterday rather than speaking to me and explaining their decision.
Anyway, he said the reason our loaner was denied is because
a) I indicated I won't be needing it for work until pandemic restrictions are lifted. So in their opinion the 80%/380km range was enough to get me by and because
b) We have been moved up so our replacement occurs quickly. He said Hyundai expects batteries to arrive in July. He did not have a more specific date than that, but it really isn't news because our service guy already said they would not be ready to do replacements until August.
So... I kinda ripped a strip off of him and said we live in a rural community and use the car exactly because of its range over its competitors. Hyundai doesn't get to choose what kind of use of the vehicle (that we Own) is important to us. Medical appointments, shopping, travelling etc. all eat up kilometres for us.
Further, it should be an easier, not harder, decision for Hyundai to provide a loaner, if the time period is a couple months, rather than 6-12 months.
Oh, and he actually said, contrary to his colleague, that the original timeline was 12-18 months before replacement, not 6-12? So some inconsistency here.
I told him if we don't get a loaner, we'll be asking for a replacement of the defective vehicle under a warranty.
He was suitably apologetic, said Hyundai had made the decision already on our loaner, but he would speak again to them to see what they would say.
We'll see if he calls back today, or his colleague, or if they let it stew for a weekend. lol.
Are we having fun yet?
