Hilti, a European-owned major supplier of power tools to the Australian construction industry, has announced a deal to add 130 Škoda Enyaq Sportline SUVs to its fleet over the next three years.

The EV purchase deal is one of the biggest in Australia, and is a major boost for Skoda, which has sold just over 600 of its Enyaq electric SUVs so far in 2026, according to The Driven’s EV sales data. The base-model Enyaq retails for around $56,000 driveway, while the sports line variant goes for around $65,000.

Subaru Is Getting It Together!
At this rate, SS batteries may not be all that important for EV's. Unfortunately, it's still a couple of years away. Maybe there will be more improvements by then.

Subaru Unveils Next-Gen EV Battery: 25% Lighter, 20% Denser, 30% More Efficient—Production by 2029

October 25, 2026
Subaru has just revealed a major leap in EV technology, unveiling a new battery co-developed with Panasonic that is 25% lighter and 20% more energy-dense than the industry average. Combined with new motors that are 30% more efficient, this next-generation platform is set to debut in showroom cars by 2029.

While we really don't need PHEV's and EREV's any longer with the new EV's getting more range than ever, this one area may be an area for an EREV. This the the first motorhome of this type I have seen. We can be sure to see more and more of them in the future.

At this year’s iteration of The Quail—a flagship new exotic car show, held during Monterey Car Week—there were very few electric vehicles on offer. But on the far side of the field there was one, and it really stood out. Intended to go on sale in 2027 at a price of around $400,000, it was nearly 30 feet long, weighed 18,000 lb, and seats (well, sleeps) four people comfortably.

I face a similar problem with my SO's Caddy:

With help from a former boyfriend, she uses it to tow a trailer in her 'egg money' business:
  • Previous she had a 2014 BMW i3-REx, 72 mi EV and 80 mi gas but needed more
  • Savings over 5 years, $10,750 - $12,500
    • $12,500 (EV) - Cadillac OPTIQ
    • $12,250 (EV) - Tesla Model X
    • $10,750 (Plug-In) - Toyota RAV4
  • "Never let good enough become the enemy of perfect"
Although the EVs have ultimate cost savings, having the gas engine backup gives her an additional 160 miles range, 440 -> 600 miles. Even when using gas, the relative efficiency gain 38 MPG vs 20 MPG, gives her a substantial savings. But around town, she can use a combination of grid power, $0.12/kWh and home solar, $0.00/kWh to save money. In effect, she has a Cadillac sized BMW i3-REx.

I think those are best case PHEV numbers. Real use data usually is quite different, especially if it is a company or fleet car. A PHEV doesn't always get plugged in and the mileage depends very much on how they are driven. A heavy foot will use a lot of gas rather than battery in many PHEV's even though there is battery power available.

It took me a few seconds to realize what this was until I recognized the fifth wheel hitch. This is used mainly in truck terminals.

XCMG reveals autonomous prime mover

The new XCMG SDA411 concept terminal truck is fully electric, has no cabin, and an L4 autonomous tech stack that’s purpose-built for unmanned logistics – and, if XCMG get their way, it looks like the future of drayage truck operations.

Whether you call them terminal trucks, yard dogs, or anything else, these heavy-duty trucks do work that’s ideally suited to electrification. It’s all low-speed, high-torque, short distance, precision operation, all the time. And the quiet, vibration-free, instant power operation of electric drive is in its element.
