Full charge, 42 miles.

Just purchased my Clarity this weekend. Dashboard and Honda Link showing only 42 miles on a full charge, instead of the advertised 47. Should I be concerned or will this change as I drive it more?

Drive a dozen or so miles on HV and don't get too aggressive, then charge up and see what it says.
 
That number is an estimate made on past driving of the car. If others drove it and ran it on sport, floorboarding it then the MPG would be very low.
Drive a few times and charge every time and very soon you will have your average MPG show up.l

What Stacey said..... You have no idea how hard the idiots that test drove it before you drove. Drive it conservatively. Dont gun it too much, and wait to see what it shows in a few days. If its still that low after that, take it back to Honda for a battery test.
 
My charge mileage varies according to how many miles I drive. When I drive from Palm Springs to LA which is about 300 mi RT, my charge mileage can be as high as 60 miles. When I drive around town for a few weeks my charge mileage drops to about 45-50 miles. I also notice it depends upon the weather. In very hot desert weather the charge mileage drops. In winter weather the charge mileage goes up.
 
I'm one of the happy idiots :) who accelerates as fast as is legal and safe to do. My dashboard says 47-49 miles on a full charge. The extra 10 miles I would get with hypermiling doesn't help with my short commute, and I'm paying $0.11/kWh at home, so I'm happy to floor it as much as I can.
 
It needs some driving history with your driving style and conditions so it can give a more accurate estimate.

If it doesn’t increase in a few charges, you may want to take it in and have the Battery Capacity Signal checked. This will show if the battery was damaged before purchase. A new battery should read 55Ah or very close to this.
 
Thanks everyone! As a new owner, though I'm fairly educated on the car, seeing you get something other than advertised is annoying. Love the car so far and looking forward to not visiting a gas station anytime soon.
 
Mine started at 42 as well and took a couple charges to go up. Has improved to 46 but I live in a hilly area which seems to cut it down.
 
When I got my car 2 weeks ago (yea happy 2 weeks anniversary) EV range was 70km after my first charge (EPA 76km). After 2 weeks and 500km I am now at 93km EV range and this is with A/C set to 24C (76F)

After about 4000 miles, this is what I have. 44 miles @85% or about 52 miles at full charge.

BTW, your phone needs to be recharged, LOL
 
Just as an aside, I'm been very happy with the EV range estimate. (Obviously not with the HV range). Yesterday I took a fairly hilly round trip to the next town that is 25.5 miles away. Range said 52. I honestly thought I'd hit some HV for a few miles. I got back home with 5 miles left on EV. So the EV range was actually 5 under. Granted most of it was two-lane roads at about 45 MPH with a town on each end with some stop and go, so I wasn't doing 70+, but still happy since I have to go to that town fairly often.

(Of course I don't expect to make it in the Winter. Oh well....)
 
Just as you all predicted. EV range adjusted to my driving habits. Next problem is how to get it to say 60 miles. ;) Thanks everyone!

Congratulations, with moderate acceleration, resisting the temptation to exceed the speed limits, and not running up to a stop and slamming on the brakes, you can get to 60 m in the summer with only ac on. The best is yet to come.
The gear symbol will show up in the center of the energy flows; kind of centered between the l/r wheels and the ICE/battery. It’s not very big so it’s not that noticeable.

On an HV trip starting with an almost full battery, I saw it engage the direct drive on and off and all the possible energy flows switch back and forth as the algorithm choose the most efficient power scheme. My hour meter later showed the ICE ran for about 2/3 if my total trip time in HV and I got 49 mpg And the EV range only was down by 1.5 miles at the end.

It is definitely based upon conditions and your driving on your previous trip(s). After a long drive downhill from the mountains, on my next re-charge I achieved an EV range of 104.1! More typically it is in the 50's for me during the summer.
