Always a good idea to go for the largest wiring/circuit you can for future proofing (Much easier to upgrade the EVSE and breaker than run new wiring)
Yeah ahem one of the electricians I called tried to tell me I only need 8/3, only a 40A breaker, and don’t need it to be a GFCI breaker even though I’m putting in a 14-50 receptacle. I’ve installed my own circuits and breakers before, and I heed the latest NEC even if local jurisdiction requirements are lower, but to get the Quebec EVSE rebate (CA$600) needs an invoice from a licensed electrician. I thanked thebfirst guy and hung up, then called another electrician (recommended by a co-worker), and told him I’ll gather the supplies and do the rough-in to my standards, and he can install the breaker and supply an invoice, and he said that’s a great idea. Putting in a 50A GFCI breaker, 6/3, and an industrial 14-50R.

Yea, I know a few electricians who've used/recommend 8/3 for the 40A EVSE's. Not best practice in my opinion, especially since it's a constant load, also definitely not up to snuff using a 40A breaker, unless you're hard-wiring to a 32A EVSE.

As for the GFCI, eh, if local code doesn't require it I personally would avoid. All EVSE's (reputable ones at least) have it built in (which can lead to false trips according to some folks). If it's for a receptacle in a water-prone area though, sure.

(Note - I'm not a licensed electrician, I just work for an electrical supply distributor. I also do my own work most of the time. I did pay my licensed friend to do a panel upgrade though recently.)

They were referring to the included EVSE with 2023's. The Flexcharger would require a 14-50 receptacle to charge at 240V, unless you managed to purchase an additional adapter for lower amperage 240V charging (and those adapter plugs seem to be hard to come by from BMW).

Always a good idea to go for the largest wiring/circuit you can for future proofing (Much easier to upgrade the EVSE and breaker than run new wiring).
Guess I am buying 8' of thicker wire and a 50A breaker. The 110 unit that came with my 2022 got me a whopping 5 miles every hour. I bought the Juice box, got the 30% federal credit, and now they offer a real charger.

the 32A charger was substantially less than the 40A, and at 15 miles every hour there was no need for the 40A for a few years. Guess I miscalculated that one.

I just looked at the picture I took of the panel. I used 6ga and a 50A breaker in case i got a 40A charger. Yipee! Maybe I wil sell the juice box. I used it once.

Woohoo! Status 150! I know I know… but that’s the first new update since I ordered!

MINI Canada said no updates yet, texted my MA and he came back with that 150 and a screenshot of my VIN! Mdecoder doesn’t have it yet, but Bimmer.work does, so there’s a chance I do indeed get on one of the late-May/early-June roros to Halifax. I’ve already set a keyboard shortcut of “wmw” in iOS to fill in my VIN every time I check anything lol.

I missed a lot myself - I woke up and it was done. These are exciting times. If mine ships out in the next week or so, I'll be getting it in just about three months from order - which is fantastic for a Signature (base model, no sunroof) SE. I need to get my 240v 50a breaker / circuit setup wired up at the house now for the flex charger!

Nice.. Me too.. Mine is BRG - Signature model - ordered on March 29. production expected week 21 (3rd week of May) - Hope and pray that I get it by June end in NYC....

Figure end of June to middle of July based on what the delivery spreadsheet shows. Three weeks is hardly worth a prayer. Our moms waited nine months for us, and in return got a lifetime of "joy!" waiting three more weeks for a car/toy that will get tossed in a few years isnt worth prayers.

Wow, that’s great news, much better than I got, which is a “no news” email from MINI Canada saying sorry for the delay. Keep us informed.

The vessel I'm 95% sure my Mini is on, the Hestia Leader, is still anchored just outside the north entrance to the panama canal....going on 4 days now. Looks like NYK updated the scheduled arrival time at Port Hueneme from the 21st to the 25th.

You can call 1-866-ASK-MINI (1-866-275-6464) and they will tell you for sure what ship your Mini is on.

I don't think that's accurate. Rhea Leader left Southhampton last week May 7. I've been in port since May 6 and didn't make it on the Rhea Leader.

The schedule posted in here has been wildly inaccurate.
i was going by this one. https://www.nykroro.com/documents/RTW-AFCON/RTWwk17.pdf.
Cant complain. I guess our cars will be steerage mates on the Cosmo. It looks like the Cosmo is ahead of schedule. In Antwerp 5 days earlier than the schedule says, and only Bremerhaven is adjusted. https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/GRAND-COSMO-IMO-9303182-MMSI-371648000

I may have to change my guesstimate from June 22 to June 17.

Thank you! I'm still trying to decide if I prefer knowing the status of every step or simply being surprised when it shows up. :)
All of us would probably rather know an ETA, move on, and call the dealer a few days before that. But, a genius at Mini gave us the ability to track it. I think it is called track crack, because like crack, we cant get enough of the tracking.

Next version of the track crack app
Entered assembly line
Dash installed
4 lug bolts installed
5th lug bolt installed
second wheel installed

Nothing to add, but that made me actually laugh out loud!

My Mini had production date: 5/10 and current status is 193 - At the port. Looks like my car will also be part of the same group... Excited.. can't wait .... :)
