Dealer just informed me that no more 2022 Mini Cooper SE are being produced

The SE has become our primary car for sure when in town, but out of town we take the Clubman.
Yay, another two-MINI family. We still have our ICE Clubman which is a much better dog vehicle, but the day MINI announces an EV version I'm getting one.

I've been wanting to roadtrip in the SE from the Twin Cities to Albuquerque (I have family there and have done the trip many times), and it's gotten more possible with the SE in the last year. It looks like about an extra 10 hours of charging, but overnight charging would knock some of that off. Unfortunately the SE is just a bit small to bring the dogs and luggage on such a journey.

Hey guys, thanks for the informative thread! Were you able to order your SE at MSRP? Weighing whether or not to pay a $2500-5000 premium that dealerships are charging for in stock inventory right now or if I would be better off just waiting until 2023 ordering is allowed even if there is a slight bump in MSRP due to inflation, etc.
I have three dealerships around me and all of them offered MSRP. The only difference was dealership doc/prep fees. They happily took my deposit for a 2023 order. I expect a call in a few weeks to place my order.

My dealer didn't have the car I wanted, so I found one (120mi away) and they traded with another dealer. They have it listed at MSRP, but not sure if they will bump it up because of the transport. I'll update once I pick up the car this weekend. I'm in the Bay Area.

Has anyone bought a L2 Mini charger from the dealership? If so, how was the experience?

Hey all, I just received a call that we will not be getting a 2022 that we have been waiting for an allocation since November but instead we will get a 2023 and production should start sometime in April...
Is this normal? Did I get stuck giving my down payment($1000) to an unprofessional location? Just so weird that they would not honor the agreement for the 2022 but the guy flat out told me that 2022's will be replaced with the 2023's which I have no information on.
I got my VIN yesterday. start of production.

I guess it depends who you are and what size family you have. For us, our SE has become our primary car, and I absolutely consider it a family car. We have two kids 5 and under, and both fit great with the car seats in the back. We take the SE everywhere, and have even taken it to the beach (120 mile round trip), without having to charge. My wife and I both use the SE for work (we alternate going to work and working from home), so our ICE car is now only used to pick up kids from school when the SE is not available, or for long trips (which we are not really taking right now anyways).

Couldn't be happier with our MINI!
You are more courageous than me. When our daughter was 4 I sold one of my 944s, and almost bought a Mini convertible. The distance between the back seat and rear glass scared me off. If we got rear ended by a pickup truck our daughter would have been beheaded. I bought an E46 convertible. Two years later i sold that car, and I looked at the Mini coupe, Rabbit, and Astra. Got a deal on a leftover 3 door Astra with the proper 3 pedals. For peace of mind, I needed to know extra foot + of space between the hatch and rear seat was there to act as a buffer.

I know some local dealers still have new se in their inventory, let me know if you are interested in a pre build one

Well, if some from of BBB passes, the tax credit of $7500 will be reduced to $4500 since it needs to have at least 40kw for full credit. The new one I believe will have that and would qualify for full credit and I am sure will have much better range than the current one if you have any range concerns.

with out the tax credits, Mini SE is expensive and I would not buy it.

that would be a surprise. The new model is a smaller car after all.

Any info on 2023 ordering?

I took a test drive of a dealer demo 2022 this weekend and loved it. Sales rep had no info on when ordering will open up, but wasn't sure if anyone here had any guesses/info...

I placed an online reservation last week. My rep was pretty certain that there would be little change between 22 & 23s (and they won't be the the Great Wall version that's been leaked). He said production of the 23s will start the first week of March.

I think it is unusual that your dealer has the ability to take orders, and mine doesn't, and that yours has definite knowledge about the changes, but mine doesn't.

We were at the dealer Saturday ready to take an order, and my salesman knows I am serious having taken delivery of one three months ago.

Did you get an order number from BMW?

My guess I'd your salesman will out your order in when BMW says it is OK to take orders.

You're right (sorry, I'm a newbie). I did the online reservation, but the order won't go in for a few weeks, and will get an order number at that point. The main thing I thought was interesting was that production of 23s should start beginning of March (according to him).

About two weeks ago when I was about to put my order in I got a copy of the bulletin from my salesman. Basically any orders in will be filled. That should take them through March.

The unknown is if they will update the website with the 24, just stop producing SEs in England, and bring the Great Wall Mini over as a 23 in March, or build a few more as 23s, which makes no sense in March.

I doubt MINI would have spent the money to update the 2020/2021 SE for 2022 if it wasn't going to be in production for at least 2 years. Based on BMW's history with their MINI, it seems no major changes ever happen early. At some point they will pull the wraps off the Chinese car without revealing important details, which will create a quandary for potential customers: buy the 2023 UK SE or wait for the possibly less desirable 2024 Chinese electric MINI? That's the BMW/MINI way.

The BMW Blog reports, "The MINI Electric could feature GWM’s L.E.M.O.N. platform already used for the curiously named ORA Good Cat." That platform acronym doesn't bode well. "FAAR" sounds so much more reliable.

The gas model's platform may go in for a year or two with the 2022 update. But, since the electric will be on the "lemon" platform, it will be a completely different car (or will it), which has me speculating on a launch as soon as it is ready.

If they are shutting the 22 production down this early, is it to update the factory for a new platform with a nose that looks like the updated 22?

That's weird that your dealers stop taking orders.
In France they keep on taking order. When the new model is announced the dealer calls you to inform you that you've been switched to the new model, and he will map the different options you chose on to the new model. And if they don't exist anymore he adapts the order with you.
That's what happened to me last year.

Same here in the US. My salesman was notified by BMW that as of 5:00 whatever day they will no longer take orders for a 2022, and that they will open orders for the 2023 at the end of January, early February. That is what is fueling the speculation. Maybe your salesman in France has some inside information that hasn't made it across the pond yet.
