I'd love 75 miles,. but I am not interested in a RAV4 for sure, and despite desperate attempts with Google, I can't seem to find anything called a "Honda CH"? If it's another little SUV, also not interested though. That said, I understand that the US market remains SUV crazy,. so it is good to see them targeting the right market.

Toyota makes a C-HR and Honda makes an HR-V, but I don't know the Honda CH. AFAIK, Honda's next plug-in was to be the Pilot Plug-In Hybrid, but there's been no news about that vehicle since last June. Maybe it will show up at the LA Auto Show in November. It would seem that only the Pilot or Odyssey would be large enough to contain a 75-mile battery, but that big a battery would make for an expensive PHEV.

Fat fingered HR-V. Sorry. I really think that things will change really fast next year.

Our offerings of EV and PHEV will expand since Europe and China are forcing them on the public.
 
Hi all,

Just purchased my clarity yesterday. While in the garage charging, I noticed intermittent noise coming from front of the car. Maybe a fan running. Is that normal?

I've noticed that too at times. I think it must have something to do with maintaining battery temp. while charging. Congrats on your new rig!

Yes. The fan speed, thus loudness, could be tied to battery temperature because I did not notice in the winter charging with OEM EVSE cord.
 
Going up and across the mountains around LA on the way to Monterey and back. Noticed acceleration issues and engine revving noises. Had passenger Google it and look it up in Owner's manual. Many, online, recommend switching to "Sport Mode" while going up hills or mountains. In "Sport Mode", I found a gradual acceleration with judicious use of the accelerator pedal seems to work better. It does not have the power of my Infinity Q Series and is a little sluggish going uphill. However, not stomping the accelerator, not "floorboarding it" helps and reduces engine and electric motor noise and will get you to a gradual 60-65 mph going up hills etc... I must note that I had a fully loaded Clarity with 3 Adults and a loaded trunk with luggage, a cooler and more.... Thank you for the suggestion of saving/not using the electric charge until I get to the hill or mountain. I will try that next time. I used up my charged up going from San Diego to LA...And, I did not have time to stop for a long charging break at the time as I had to get to a surprise birthday party etc...

It sounds like your 4,059-lb, 42-mpg car with 3 adults and a ton of cargo acquitted itself very well under the mountainous circumstances. You could have used HV CHARGE to build up your battery's state of charge before hitting the mountains, but you showed that imposing that big hit on your car's MPG isn't really necessary.

Yes that's normal, the fan runs to keep the battery cool during charging.
My garage gets so hot that the fan runs almost all night and charging slows down to about 50% or twice the charge time....
