Notice the records from 2015 @ 18,000 nationwide.
A little local nostalgia remembering back in 2012 driving my 80 mile Leaf, I had to go to Vancouver to get one (there was me as a Leaf owner, another couple on Saltspring Island and City of Nanaimo bought 2). Perhaps a Model S once in a while, and a few Leaf competitors ie: i-MiEV about.

Just curious as to when other members started their electric journey and what model EV did you start out with?

Bought my first BEV in April, 2019, a Kona BEV. Great car, really enjoyed driving it, so did my wife. After that was totally sold on EVs. Don't own an ICE car now, just two EVs, a 2023 Solterra and a 2023 Ioniq 6. No turning back for me.

2015 Leaf S with 24kW battery. 6 months later a family member had an accident which wrote off the car and with replacement insurance and no Leaf S's in stock got a free upgrade to a Leaf SV. Then 2018 Leaf 40kW. Then 2023 Aryia Evolve+.

The early years we never paid for public charging and it often included talking to people about EV's while the car was charging.

It's been such a relief not to pay for gas these past 10 years --and the never ending maintenance requirements of an ICE car.

Back when the US had maybe half a million BEV's, after Hurricane Irma knocked our power out for 10 days in September 2017 we decided to try an electric car as a second car and install rooftop solar panels. After really loving the cars zippyness and handling, our first EV was a 2018 Smart fortwo cabrio. That was the only car my wife and I ordered built to spec in the factory. I thought the car would be primarily driven by me and my wife would continue driving our Ford Edge. I was wrong. So we went back and the 2017 Smart cabrio that we test drove was still on the lot, so we bought it too. Then we gave the Edge to a family member that needed a car. The Smart only had L1/L2 charging, which as fine for local driving as we charged at home, and even on L1 the car recharged overnight. After about five months, in winter 2019, we decided to add a 2017/18 Ford Focus Electric (with 50 kW DCFC) and bought a 2017 with low miles. We managed road trips in Florida just fine but that still required planning stops. Going out of state for road trips to the northeast was a bigger challenge with a lot of 'must stop' locations. Road trips to Iowa rom Florida was not quite ready for 115 mile EPA range our car had. In 2022 we decided to look for a car with longer range and faster charger for more frequent road trips. We ended up with first one (delivered a couple of days before Hurricane Ian knocked out our power for a week), and now we have two Mach E's as the US have over 5 million BEV and what feels like 20x more DCFC options with stopping at our convenience.

A true pioneer family!
