Canada allows Chinese EVs into market

Since EVs and charging infrastructure are well established in Canada, can't imagine the Chinese trying to introduce another type here now. Might not sell a lot of cars, if you can't charge them.

If the battery bus and fast DC charger are in the same voltage range, a handshake translator (i.e., adapter) should work. But if a battery is at 800 VDC and the charger 400 VDC, no.

Quote from the article with regard to adapters:
"Charging networks are forced to use chargers with multiple cables, at added cost. What’s more, poor quality chargers and adapters have created fire risks."

"Canada, which imposed 100 per cent tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles in 2024, will allow up to 49,000 Chinese EVs into the Canadian market each year, at a 6.1 per cent tariff."

I guess we are going to need some more categories:)
yeah the forum is definitely going to need a whole new section just for byd and the other chinese brandsit is wild how fast they walked back those massive tariffs after making such a big deal about themi am really curious to see how those batteries actually hold up once they hit a real canadian winter

The China border with North Korea gets pretty chilly in the winter too. A toddler at the time, I wasn't there. but:

We'll get more forums created as demand exists. We already have too many forums, if I'm being honest. I've thought many times how to clean up the clutter and didn't get very far.

We're quickly going to get into the 'first wave' of old EVs no longer being of interest. 10 year old evs will have diminishing demand (old tech, spent battery, etc) sent to the scrap yard and very little interest in the platform after that point. Too costly to maintain/replace cells/etc, off to the scrap yard they go.

New models come out every day. Brands are coming out monthly it seems.

The thought I had was to create a catch-all generic 'Chinese EVs' category where they can all be discussed, but this sounds a bit not PC. Why not a German EV category? or why does Vinfast get their own and aren't in a Vietnamese category.
Still need to iterate on this and do the right thing.

Ultimately, user-demand (people coming here with the car) will dictate what categories we create.
That said, if we don't have a category for something, they probably won't come here at all anyway. Chicken/Egg.

So, ideally, one of you regulars needs to be the first to tell me that you want this forum for this car because you just bought it :)
