Nevermind. When I got home yesterday I decided to completely rearrange my storage shelving in the garage to allow me to back the car in rather than pull in. Now the charge port is right next to the outlet and the cord does not need to pass under the door threshold. Crisis averted. :p

Great solution!

I back into my driveway so I can blast out towards the street without worrying about unseen pedestrians or cross-traffic. Even with the MINI's excellent (compared with our Clarity) rear camera, I don't enjoy slowly backing out after my wife parks our SE the other way.

My wife does the same with whatever car she drives. Always pulls into the driveway. Drives me nuts!

It’s easier and safer to back in because you have a good view of oncoming traffic while doing so since you are already in the road. Better than when backing out.

Unfortunately my garage is set up such that the EVSE has to be in the front left corner by the door. Backing into the garage puts it square on the opposite corner from where the charge door is. Pulling straight in puts it in just the right spot.

I'm in the same situation. The best (for wiring purposes) location for my 240v outlet is perfect if I back out. My solution? I found an EVSE with a 30ft cord. Works perfectly for me.

That would work too, if I was in the market for a new EVSE. I’ve had this one since 2013 and it worked when backing in my Leaf, CMax Energi, and Bolt EV. It’s just the Mini that suddenly presents the inconvenience of not being able to back in.

Anyone interested in the wall mount kit for the included EVSE, its now available stateside through BMW. I ordered one for pickup from my local BMW dealer.
https://www.shopbmwusa.com/product/14813/WALLMOUNT-KIT-FOR-FLEXIBLE-FAST-CHARGER

I ordered and received one. Pretty low quality. The piece that holds the actual charger is plastic and only slides on/off. It doesn't click in place, or lock the charger in place. Gravity holds it down. Our outlet is outside, so I was hoping this was more permanent. If anyone wants one, I have one for sale that I am unable to return. I think it would be great if it were inside a garage or locked area.

So can someone confirm that the actual plug on the included level 2 charger with the 2023 model is a 14/50? I keep hearing different things like "just like a dryer plug, but my dryer plug has prongs at angles, not a 14/50. My electrician won't come until I am sure which outlet he needs to install, and I'd prefer not to waittill after my car arrives. This is the 240 volt plug that comes with the charger?

It comes with a NEMA 14-50 plug for level 2 charging. It looks similar to your photos but higher quality construction.

Great. Thanks, yes, I just googled a picture for the composition of the prongs. So I guess we're good to go so long as the included plug is that composition.

I just took delivery of my 2023 and the dealer gave me this:

https://info.evsolutions.com/turbocord

After reading this thread I'm convinced he gave me an older charger and not the new one. (When I was going through the vehicle with the "orientation" guy, the charger was not in the car).

I can't find anything on the Mini website about the charger that comes with the car. Anyone have any reference to point me to in case the dealer decides to give me a hard time about it?

Check out the earlier comment with photos, plus there's an official video from MINI (although it looks like UK).

UK charging not USA useless video here to just confuse new owners of SE for L2 charging in your garage you need 14-50 NEMA 909F6A0A-E28D-4457-AED1-D82E2ECD5D2F.webp
