Taking Pre-Orders in Canada

  1. But seriously, why is a car with my specs sitting on a lot for days/weeks while I am still without a car? This is the issue for me. Why wasn't it shipped on? Why isn't my dealer looking at inventory and ordering it to his dealership to satisfy his customers? What kind of laissez faire kind of company is this? Now that I think about it It was probably CJC's elusive order.

That was part of my losing it speech i.e. "how can you be selling cars with the same specifications as the one we ordered to people off the street without asking me if I want one of them?"

  4. And the answer, of course, is that one is hard and the other is easy. One requires care and thought and the other is status quo.

  5. So what was their answer? Let me guess: "Um, er, " etc.

Close "I'll have so and so phone you."

  8. We told the dealer people were still waiting on their orders but no real response to that. Also said we were surprised at Hyundai not requiring the cancelled orders go out to those people.
My guess is that it's a hot commodity right now. Dealers practically have them sold overnight so they have no incentive to reach out to other awaiting orders. As you said, it's the easy way. Of course it's also money in their pocket.

  9. My guess, it costs money to load it back on a transport and relocate. Why move it and lose money when people will buy it off the lot? Completely ignorant to their pre-order customers of course, but I bet that's why.

  10. Anybody else notice that the Hyundai Canada build tool no longer offers the light upholstery with the white exterior? How long has that been the case?

I just tried on the site and I could choose the pebble grey etc.

  13. Hmm. I only get the grey interior option on blue and grey paint choices.

You're right. I flubbed up. lol I'm looking at wrapping my roof. Not sure yet, but I did really like the white roof with the Ceramic Blue. However, I am seeing some pretty funky tartans and patterned roof designs. I would like something, but don't want to be weird and freaky. I want it tasteful, but I am finding the car needs something to make it unique. The blue is lovely, but the car itself is not as unique looking as I would like. Any thoughts?

  15. I was totally into the blue with white roof(and mirrors) and was totally bummed when it proved unavailable here. I think whatever you do you will need to consider the mirrors. I feel like they are key to a unified look and they might be tricky to wrap properly though I have zero experience with such things. I'd also consider sacrificing some aero for some fine custom wheels.

Same here re: being totally into the white roof and mirrors and being bummed when we couldn't order it. I will likely go that route if I can't find something tasteful in a similar look, but not necessarily white. I find I don't like the nondescript look where no one is noticing my car. I must be vain to say that. lol I think with the white roof and mirrors it would get some attention. The car is so great that it needs something to show off that greatness imo.

With the custom wheels, are you thinking coloured wheels? We have a friend with a company that fixes wheels damaged by pot holes and she says coloured ones are very popular.

Hyundai is selling a ton of Konas. My hope is that aftermarket parts will become available and, given the very similar body styles, they'll fit the ev. Bit of a gamble but it might give some options soon.

A little bit of an exaggeration, since you are in BC it is a bit different. They aren't flying off the lots, but I'm sure most can sell them within a month for sure. There are more dealers with vehicles on the lots now in BC, since the second ship has come in. There are way more cancelled orders this time around, and it seems like a bit of extra vehicles for a few dealerships, and that seems how you were able to get yours a week later. Each dealership is on the hook for a cancelled order and must pay Hyundai Canada a fee (about $1500), thus dealers are losing money if they have to ship their cars elsewhere. In fact I've seen some dealers raise their prices in order to recoup some of that fee. Then the costs to transport vehicles, logistics, insurance, probably doesn't make it enticing either. BC and Quebec also have the government incentives still, while Ontario doesn't, so it seems like they are sending extra vehicles to these provinces first because they have a higher chance of selling. Also it is easier to make a pre-order wait and sell one immediately to someone else then the other way around, because that someone else might not wait or go to another dealership to buy. The pre-order is somewhat guaranteed, even if they have to wait an extra week. Plus most dealers don't think their customers will find out anyways, it is through this forum that we have more information.
Right now there are only 2 stated First pre-order members in this forum who still don't have their vehicles, Wildeyed in Ontario and electriceddy in BC. Those should have been allocated from the last boat if there were extras on the ship that matched their color choices. But in reality they should have been on the first boat and both of them should be driving them by now.

Lol, do you want them to notice it because it is electric or just notice it in general because it looks different?

I think a bit of both. My C-Max Energi PHEV gets noticed as being a plug in hybrid and gets complimented often, and it has only a little blue insignia on the rear lift gate--yet I have always get questions. I think the outside looks of the Energi are nicer than the Kona somehow. Can't put my finger why the Energi gets commented on--maybe just design? The Kona is smaller and although a nice colour, it does look like every other small hatchback out there. I had a convertible Smart Car years ago with two vivid shades of green and everyone loved her. I called her Pickle lol. I like pop in my garden too. We have a beautiful albeit small garden, and I love that everyone who walks by stops to say how beautiful the flower combinations are etc. My choices in the garden are different but tasteful and cars will slow down to look and sometimes take photos. I want the same reaction for my Alice. So I need to find something tasteful and different. I am very open to ideas. I think it is pretty likely I will go for the white roof and mirrors. I am just checking out recommendations of wrapping companies.

  21. I've never really considered coloured wheels. I was just thinking some nice spokes. The aero wheels are pretty yuck. I did see an anniversary edition Fiat 500 with powder blue solid rims and I loved them. But frankly I'm having a tough time justifying any bells and whistles given the already mind-numbing price tag on this thing - and the fact that I don't have it, of course.

I've seen a few of the coloured wheels around, and they look pretty good. I just saw a red Mini-Cooper with black trim and a white top (probably a wrap) and it looked very nice. So I may have to go with the white wrap. Here is a white top from factory that a UK owner has. No sun roof though. I think it looks great.

It's only been a week!! I probably couldn't help you on this, as I bought it because it is electric and looks like a normal vehicle!! Now some new rims would definitely be enticing. Do the white roof and mirrors, it is something you seem to like. Maybe even that front grey part by hood emblem to white?
