  1. You get free updates for 3 years, after that you have to pay.

  3. How would I get it for free as it's trying to charge me?

Yep - having the same issue in the USA .. $25 US .. Looks like the DOWNLOAD option is the only one that is "FREE" (or Included for 3 years). Stupid.

From a CHAT SESSION this morning when I asked them about the Price:

"Hello thank you for contacting us.
The map update cost is due to an agreement between MnSOFT and the manufacturer of your vehicle. While some models / countries include the cost of the update at no added cost (mostly as a download), unfortunately this does not cover all vehicles.
I advise you to contact your vehicle manufacturer's consumer affairs line if you have any other concerns about the map update costs.
Please let us know if you have any other questions."

  6. Good idea to chat Mapnsoft. I got this information from Angel:
    1. For 2018 or newer Hyundai vehicles covered by the Mapcare program, the download option will remain free of cost.

    2. The May 15th date is tentative, (a lot of delays are caused by the pandemic) but it is what we are shooting for for most of the models.

    3. We are currently not aware of any fix to the Widescreen models and Android Auto / Carplay, but the manufacturer is aware of the issue.

    4. I believe the update option [Quick or General] determines if the entire system will update or just the navigation portion. Unfortunately I do not have the specifics for which update is required for that model, the shipped manual will elaborate on that however.
If that really was Angel, and not the screen name for the department, she is one of the best informed and most thorough customer service agents I've ever come across. The other month she chased down info for me on the Android Auto widescreen issue that is totally a Hyundai - Google problem not involving Mapnsoft (except to incorporate a solution). Hyundai customer service blew it off.

You can download yourself for free, but they claim that downloads won't be available until May 15th.

Any idea if they can do this via OTA given the MnSoft update site is so slow? Garmin hand held,I can get the whole gigantic file without an issue.

@Toolworker , I have also spoken to Angel,he is a he. Are they just all called Angel?! Android Auto, it has now stopped working for me for both Orea,Pie,v.10 also not working. It sucks because I want to know where the radars are.Almost got caught today, out of nowhere a police SUV flies by me to catch a SUV that flew by me.

Checking in with you folks first, avoid dealership during covid-19 given the stay in place order, and I am not driving much.May Nav.has lost its mind.It began cycling as I started using my Kona less. Then my map entirely disappeared.Including telling me I failed to authenticate. It came back after driving, parking a couple of times.Hope it hasn't caught COVID-19:eek:

  10. Forgive my ignorance, but I have a few questions:

    1. Are map and general car software updates strictly "self-service", or do dealerships do this for you?
    2. I don't recall being given any information when I bought the car about how/when to update the map and/or software. Where did you folks get this information from?
    3. Is the map update and the general software update the same process, or are these two different processes?

I'm not adverse to doing the update myself. But, being in the software business, I know the upgrade process can be buggy sometimes. Last thing I want to do is screw up the software in the car. For folks that have done it themselves, what was your experience? Where can I find instructions that I can review before attempting it myself?

General updates still need to be done by the dealer. I don't know the process the dealer uses - this could be over the OBDII port, but that's just a guess.

Map updates (which sometimes come with infotainment software updates) are a separate process that you can do yourself (or you can ask your dealer to do for you, I guess). Last October, I was able to download the update from this site:

    https://www.mapnsoft.com/hyundai/customer/account/login/

Anyways, back in October I downloaded from the above site and I put the files on a new SD card, which I then inserted in the slot just beneath the screen on the Kona. It took a few minutes for it to process the infotainment updates, and then I had the new maps. I expect this update to be the same, but until I actually do the job, I won't know for sure.

The download process requires you to enter your VIN number. I *suspect* that something in there is encoded so that an SD card for one car can't be used in a different one. But that's just a guess as well.

They give you the option of purchasing a new SD card for 25$ instead of doing the download. Your choice, really. The download option won't be available until May 15th however (and that date is apparently still somewhat tentative).

If you literally just bought your Kona, you might need to wait for your VIN to be registered in their system. For whatever reason, that can take something like 6 weeks or so.

Note that the site above has a link in the upper right that says "report map errors". I have used this a couple of times to report missing or new EV charging stations in my area. Does it actually work? Who knows, but it gives me a feeling like I have done something productive.

The 2020 Kona appear to no longer have an SD card that is externally visible - people speculate that the update is now via USB instead, but until someone has had a chance to perform the update we won't know for sure.

  13. Thanks for the detailed response. I think I'll wait for the download option and save myself $25. I assume it comes with instructions? What SD card did you use? Type (SD or SD Micro)? Brand? Size?

Just a standard SD card. Once the download option becomes available, there will be instructions as to the size - my *recollection* is that you need a 32Gb (which means SDHC). I just got mine at Staples.

SD cards come in different "classes", and that relates the the maximum data rate. Class 10 is usually what I get as that's faster - I don't recall what the instructions say. I still have my *old* SD card (what the car came with) - it is 32Gb class 10. I can take a picture of it if that helps.

  15. You can pop it out of the slot. Just do it while the car is off.

  17. It tells the system your model, year, trim level, and options if any, to make sure you get the right software and instructions for your car.
    I repeat:
I should have said this is for the 2020 EV. Click "update instructions" to see them.

  18. There is also some kind of process that fingerprints the download to your car because you need to enter the deviceID which you need to get out of the software info screen from your car. That's the reason for us to have to download and install a download client and enter those details before everything gets written onto the SD Card. So I am pretty confident in saying that if you just swap SD Cards between cars, it's not going to work.

I had ordered the SD card - according to the USPS tracking, it shipped today. Delivery tentatively Monday.

In case anyone else encounters this, the reset button is just above and to the right of the volume knob - you can see it at the edge of the picture where I have the error message up. You can press the button with a paper clip or a ballpoint pen, and it reboots the infotainment system.

With the old SD card in there, it comes up fine, and I have the old maps. So not a huge deal - a minor inconvenience.

I have already been in contact with MnSOFT support - sent them photos of a couple of things (current software version, error message, and picture of new SD card (to make sure they didn't ship me the wrong one)), and I will let their people figure out what the right course of action is.
