No worries there for me as I have not updated maps since day one. The original "nag" was bad enough although it has settled down to an occasional reminder https://insideevsforum.com/community/index.php?threads/things-i-dont-like.5690/#post-61978
Well, I found out a trick so that the nag is not as bad. If you unlock the car as early as possible, the nag screen disappears faster.
It looks like it will now let you filter on AC/DC and/or level, which was a pet peeve of mine. The "Sound of Nature" is something I might use. I get so tired of the constant commercial interruptions of Sirius, and there are times I listen to "Spa" instead (sort of a new-age thing), which has no commercials.
There is commercials on Sirius XM? That's funny because I must have never chosen one of those channels. Never ever heard a commercial. I thought because it's subscription only they don't do commercials.
Not actually "commercials" ... but they (Sirius) seem to think they need to constantly announce their call station & their GENRE between several songs, or chatter about what's coming up some other time. Yea, I find it annoying as well personally for a subscription service -- which I have no plane to renew when the time comes.
Oh I see. Yes, that is a little bit annoying and doesn't really make sense to me other than that I've heard Sirius XM in restaurants or similar where it then makes sense, I guess. I actually just renewed for a whole year since they offered me a deal for only $60 for the whole year when I "threatened" to cancel. I can live with that.
If you pick something like CNN, every time the TV channel goes to commercial, they fill in with commercials of their own. There are only about a half dozen. Glass chair mats. Dinovite. Some tax thing. And a few others that don't come to mind right now. I suppose it isn't Sirius's problem - they are just filling time where there is no program, and they sell their own commercials rather than rebroadcast the TV commercials. I guess I just assumed that most of them were like this. The traffic/weather things are so watered down to the point where they aren't really usable. They claim you get info every 10 minutes, but inbetween are commercials, program announcements, and traffic/weather for other cities that you have no interest in. So my attention wanders, and it can take more like 30 minutes before I actually catch the information I really want.
Yea, that's my plan as well when the time comes to CANCEL .. $5 month would be tolerable for me ... but no way $30/month which is their current fee.
Yeah, it's easy. Give them a call and say you want to cancel unless you get a deal for the same money and they will do it. I've done that for years with our old car as well. I never payed more than $5 / month. However, we're wandering off topic now ...
People have had questions as to how one updates a 2020 - the update page implies that a USB update is possible (since you can purchase the update on SD/USB). Download not available until May 15th. I might just order media so I don't need to buy a new SD card. Easier than making a special trip in this upsidedown world.
The update for the Kona EV will be on a thumb USB drive, according to the update instructions posted on the Mapnsoft website. There is a choice between a Quick Update and a General Update, but they don't say what the difference is other than update time. Could a General Update update other systems in addition to infotainment? Also posted is an extensive list of added features, almost all of which have to do with navigation. The only other thing I see is split screen on Android Auto / Apple Car Play. It's not mentioned, but I am hoping they will fix the restriction of Android Auto to a 6.75" window on 10.25" displays.
Placed my order. Don't really know why, since we can't go anywhere. Guess 'cause it'll be something to do
I can wait 20 days to download it. Probably more like 12 to 15 days, since the USB drive won't arrive immediately and the download will.
No, we can only update the Infotainment. It is "completely" separate from the other systems. At least in terms of upgradeability. Car/drive related system updates have to be made by a dealer.
Sorry about my naive question but map updates aren't free? I'm seeing this on the mapnsoft website -> CAD$35.12 for media (SD/USB) + Shipping I have the premium plan extended warranty, is it included on that? I just got my Kona last friday
