I'm currently at 3+ months of waiting with my 2019 sitting on the dealer's lot awaiting a battery replacement. Neither they - the dealer - nor any Hyundai customer care people can offer any timeframe for repair. I know I've grown accustomed to tracking packages I order - so it is with some disbelief that Hyundai can't offer the same. I understand supply chain issues are unavoidable - but this battery problem did not just fall into their lap all of sudden. They should have been prepared to fix batteries when they issued the final recall. It does show poorly on them.

And to make matters worse - I've been stuck with a rental replacement Nissan with a mushy gas pedal. Ugh.

Just needed to vent and add my story to those wondering if they're alone in waiting for the fix.

  3. I took my Kona in in November. Waited until December and then contacted a lemon law lawyer. They start the case and in January I got the car back with a new battery. Still waiting on the lemon law case but at least I have the car back for now. Expecting I'll get a buy back in the next few months. Then will probably get a Polestar 2. Never really was an SUV/crossover type driver.

Unfortunately my car - I live in OH - has about 5k too many miles for our lemon law to kick in. I have to wonder, though, if the threat of a lemon law case sped up your repair or if you were just lucky.

  5. I think the lemon law case helped as the battery showed up about 2 weeks after the claim was filed in court. Of course it could be luck . Guess I will never know.

I haven’t heard one bleeping thing from these crooks since I requested the buyback. They confirmed I was eligible and then went radio silent. Every time I call, they have no idea what O am talking about and transfer me into a bottomless pit if vm that no one ever returns.

I guarantee I hear from them once my eligibility has expired this summer.

I have my car at the dealer, waiting for a backordered battery for over 4.5 months now. Recently they told me the battery orderd wass "lost". Dealer is providing me with a rental but giving me a lot of hassle every time the rental comes up for renewal. Usually, they just drag they feet, send my calls to voice mail and generally ignore me, or lie to me. Takes me a week and 15 phone calls to get it renewed. Lately they only extend the rental by 2 weeks or less.
The car is a 2019 and this is 2023, so I am out of the Lemon law time limit. Ihave ~ 16K miles on it.
Recently, I got a call from the supervisor of my HMC customer advocate who asked me what I wanted HMC to do?
Told him to buy back the car. He said "absolutely not", HMC is not interested in buying back the car. He framed it as a business transaction, the car is too old so it makes no business sense for HMC to buy it back. I though the buyback would be driven by their inability to fix it under warranty, not whether this was a profitable transaction for them. He proposed I should trade it in.
Did anybody get a buyback offer in a similar situation? What happens if a warranty repair cannot be completed ?
