  1. Haha, I guess, that's what Corona does to you. Moved 3 times last year, horrible. Definitely not wanting to move again anytime soon. *Knocking on wood*

However, since here in NM they don't sell EVs, not even Konas, I hope they are willing to let me upgrade to an Ioniq 5. Otherwise I won't be able to get an EV at all.

  3. Just got off the phone with Hyundai. Rep said I was free to initiate a buyback, but I would have to go through the dealership. Other folks here said that's not the way to do it! I really wish Hyundai would issue a protocol instead of leaving us--and their reps--in the dark. I feel sorry for them. The rep only knew about the buyback option because another caller mentioned it. That's what I'm going to do, but later this year. I have a "reservation" for an Ioniq 5 so I'll just be patient. And if in the meantime they give me a new battery? I'll take it.

I preferred the interior of the Kona in its light grey/blue finish. The E Nero has an all black interior which I’m not so keen on however it’s much bigger inside more leg room in the back and a bigger trunk. My wife prefers the Kia as she likes a bigger car. The other day we did a long run with four adults on board, mixed motorways and trunk road driving at 60-70 mph we managed 4-2 miles per kW.

  10. White all around seems like a good choice for a hot climate.

I wanted blue/white but the wife talked me out of it for exactly that reason that you are citing.. White is PERFECT for Florida climate.. I also like white but Blue really is my favorite color... The Tesla Blue is kind of dark and attracts heat more than the blue on the Kona.. The white roof on the Kona helps to keep it cool..

  16. Had an interesting Hyundai day today.

Started with a call back from Hyundai Canada Customer Relations this morning asking "just how much" I was driving the car. Told them that because of the pandemic itll probably be August before I start doing 200km+ a day for work. They said ok, we'll talk to our folks here about the possibility of a loaner for the time (6-12mo) our car is waiting for a battery, and get back to you.

A few hours pass and we head into Nanaimo (1 hour drive) to have the car looked at for the left-turn differential click/clunk. (which we have had confirmed by others).

Just before we complete that drive to the dealership we get a call from our 17yr old daughter. She says Hyundai called (they have our house num) and told her that they won't be loaning us a car. To our daughter! Apparently we can give them a call if we like.
lol Real Professional Customer Service Hyundai Canada!

The service guys couldn't reproduce the clunk, which is fine. It isn't always consistent. So we get no resolution there, but no biggie.

So I'll be on the phone with Hyundai Canada tomorrow morning to talk to them about proper customer service practices and trying to use a pandemic to wiggle out of their responsibilities. Then they're going to get an earful about how to replace defective products in a timely manner.

  17. The outside company that computes the buyback price for Hyundai Motor America. You open a buyback case with HMA. They hand you off to Sedgwick to gather documents, compute a price and get your agreement. Then it goes back to HMA which actually makes the offer and cuts the check. I haven't gotten far enough to know if HMA or another contractor arranges the handoff, which takes place at a dealer.
    Try one of these things:
    • If you call on the phone, don't let the rep off the line until they have opened a case for you and given you a case number.
    • But you might have better luck online. Send a new message from the Contact Us page. Ask them to open a case to discuss a buyback for your recalled Kona EV. This is also the page to update your case online.
    • Or try emailing them at [email protected].
    • Once they got serious I was corresponding with someone at [email protected], so try that as a last resort.
A dealership will eventually be involved, but only as the place to finally exchange your car for a check.

  18. Definitely leaning toward buyback after reading the Reddit posts. At the dealer now for five recalls and they said they have no idea 1) when batteries will be available and 2) even if they are, they don’t have the platform for the battery and no idea when/if they’ll ever get one. Now I just need to figure out what I want to buy.

Called Hyundai Canada. The person I spoke didn't seem open to any form of compensation, buyback or even loaner vehicle. She told me they are expecting batteries this fall, but that the pandemic is slowing things down. And that my only option is waiting for the battery.

Currently on the fence whether I should be taking this positively (looks like I will definitely be getting a new battery) or negatively (us Canadians are getting shafted with no buyback option).

  20. I just got off the phone with Hyundai Canada as well. It was a different fellow than the lady I talked to before (individual people seem to be assigned to specific cases). I made it quite clear I wasn't happy with how she left a message with our child yesterday rather than speaking to me and explaining their decision.

Anyway, he said the reason our loaner was denied is because
    a) I indicated I won't be needing it for work until pandemic restrictions are lifted. So in their opinion the 80%/380km range was enough to get me by and because

    b) We have been moved up so our replacement occurs quickly. He said Hyundai expects batteries to arrive in July. He did not have a more specific date than that, but it really isn't news because our service guy already said they would not be ready to do replacements until August.

So... I kinda ripped a strip off of him and said we live in a rural community and use the car exactly because of its range over its competitors. Hyundai doesn't get to choose what kind of use of the vehicle (that we Own) is important to us. Medical appointments, shopping, travelling etc. all eat up kilometres for us.

Further, it should be an easier, not harder, decision for Hyundai to provide a loaner, if the time period is a couple months, rather than 6-12 months.

Oh, and he actually said, contrary to his colleague, that the original timeline was 12-18 months before replacement, not 6-12? So some inconsistency here.

I told him if we don't get a loaner, we'll be asking for a replacement of the defective vehicle under a warranty.

He was suitably apologetic, said Hyundai had made the decision already on our loaner, but he would speak again to them to see what they would say.

We'll see if he calls back today, or his colleague, or if they let it stew for a weekend. lol.
Are we having fun yet? :)
