I dunno, that kind of reads like the perfect sibling response.

It was a perfect response. I was laughing at him after I had sent him a text to go visit my cold and lonely car lol

My SE came home today! I drove about 130 miles between the dealership and my home, even snuck in the car's first DCFC at an EA station (which worked flawlessly).

When the dealer handed me the new plates, the number was KEL ####. I am of the generation where my first thought was a Nickelodeon show "Keenan and Kel" from the 1990's (who loves Orange Soda?!?). Kel is a goofy but fun character. I think my car has its name!

I picked my Mini up from just north of DC two weeks ago I knew I could not make it back to Chester VA with out stopping for a quick charge. I decided to stop at Fredericksburg VA about the half way mark. I connected up to the paid with a credit card and went to get some lunch, as I was walking away it asked for my phone number to let us know when it was charged I decided not to give my number big mistake. I returned after about an hour to find the charger had stopped after 10 minutes and it had locked the plug into my car. No matter what I did it would not let go. I had to call the provider and they reset the charger and I sat there while it charged the battery for my trip home. My first experience with a EV and on the road charging did not go quite to plan.

Sweet looking ride though! So sorry about the charging woes. But hopefully in the future the rest will be easier.

Because I recognize the photos, I assume this is your video showing off your great new ride. Welcome to the forum!

Congrats on your new car, looks great!

Sorry about your poor charging experience. Sadly, this is about par for the course these days. I have similar issues in Waterloo, NY which is halfway between my home and my dealer (about a 90 mile drive). EV charging is designed for you to walk away from the car for a few minutes but sadly today you do so at your own risk. I can't wait for them to work out the kinks so I can leave my EV unattended without worrying about the charge getting interrupted.

However, it's worlds better than it had been. A few years ago, fast chargers were extremely rare on the east coast.

NOT to start any political discussion, but one item on incoming Transportation Secretary Buttigieg's agenda is improving the national charging network. I hope that pans out. I would love to take my future Mini SE on a road trip with lower stress about the charging stations working.

  13. Yep that's my Mini, I am not that good at those kind of videos but I like to have a go, I know what I want to show but sometimes its a technical challenge.

  14. It was all new to me car and charging and very stressful my first EV and a road trip as well but all turned out well in the end.

  15. I think going any long distance in the Mini SE is not a road trip its an adventure into the unknown. I will be sure to try it out this year at some point.

I am finally scheduled for Friday at 10am to pick up the car! Delay on pick up is my end only - or the banks I should say as the holiday delayed items being posted and you cannot get a certified check without funds firmly in place

Car is prepped and in the showroom today. Sadly they had no slots today or tomorrow (all are scheduling with covid) so Friday it is! Now if I could just sleep through until then, I'd be happy :D

For sure! This summer I fully intend to take several such adventures! Although being a seasoned EV driver, it's less unknown to me.

After I waited a year after ordering my first 2000 Honda Insight (mine was the first in the mid-west), I had the dealer put it in the showroom for a week and convinced them to let me drive it off the showroom floor, through the large double-wide glass doors. Just sayin'.

I went through anxiety over public charging for the first few visits, but after a half dozen times you get a sense of what to expect and the stress levels go down. And keep in mind you can always find a different charge point (assuming you're not out in the middle of nowhere). As a last resort there's always the 120V cable that comes with the SE, so all you have to do is find a working electrical outlet.

Owning an EV seems to recreate the slower pace of travel from the early days of motoring, where you enjoy the trip more instead of focusing on the destination.

Thank you! I'm excited to pick up for sure. I had hoped earlier but I'm not in control of some things and totally miss-timed the sale of my past Mini due to the car arriving almost 2 weeks faster than expected. If it weren't for covid requiring appointments for certain things, I'd have had this taken care of faster.

But in also good news is that I found out yesterday I was not a placebo for a covid-19 vaccine trial I am in. So I can breathe easier there too!

I'll ask on Friday lol. She is in the showroom though for me to keep her safe and watched over, but who knows! They have 2 new SEs on site to sell too so maybe mine is just to bring in interest. Oddly both Sig+ with cross punch leather. One red and one black.

And... just when you think you know something.... I emailed my dealer last night to inquire about the 2022, as he had last told me I was going to have to wait until May or June, but it would be a 2022.

He said this morning that "those orders already in the queue" were going to be built as 2021s, and I could now expect to receive it in March or April.

    I'm honestly ambivalent.

Has your order been accepted on the Mini production side yet? I guess it would have an assigned build number if it has been accepted? Your deposit date was a couple weeks before mine. My order has not been "accepted" because of the switchover, so I do not have a build number. I was told a few weeks back that I would be getting the 2022 model. I, too, am experiencing ambivalence. Specifically:
    • I like the added driving features such as adaptive cruise and lane departure
    • I like the new front end, but kind of miss the fog light look at the same time
    • I like the old LED circle around the center display better than the new stylized version
    • I like the old steering wheel switches rather than the shiny piano version
But I'll take what I can get. The core vehicle is still a solid choice among EVs.
