Yes, my Kona EV increased in value between mid-Fall to today (St. Patrick's Day). Made a big difference in the final price. It will be all mine on Monday. Next step is the Ceramic Pro coating later in the week.

I test drove their dedicated RWD model since, the roads are messy from the melting snow. The I5 looks so much better in person.

I love that colour. It's the one I will order when the orders open up.

  11. Hi,

    Really nice car.
I'm planning to switch my 2019 Kona Ultimate for the Ioniq 5. How much did you get for the Kona?

If you look on Kelly Blue Book, www.kbb.ca look up your model and you'll see a "trade in" range ... mine fell within that range. Now is the best timeframe to trade in a vehicle to a dealer.

  14. I agree, with the low supply of used EVs, the value is higher than normal.
Trading in saves a lot of sales tax as well on the new purchase (just taxed the difference), compared to the effort usually required to sell private.
The BC Gov. recent budget helps as well, collecting no PST on used ZEVs (for the next 5 years), additionally, increasing the luxury tax threshold from $55K to $75K on new ZEVs:)

I have had my Ioniq 5 Preferred AWD with Ultimate package for a little over a week now and, as promised here last month, I wanted to share my first impressions (800km on the odometer). For context, this is my first EV and I have been driving a Lexus NX for the past 5 years. I was a little worried that I would be a bit disappointed coming from a "premium" brand to a Hyundai, but damn was I wrong! It is an amazing car. I love it and have not found any major negatives yet. Although I point a few annoyances below. So here are my main observations:

    - It's a bullet! I know this is no surprise to anyone, but damn the torque on this thing! It actually make me very worried when everyone drives EV one day that we might see increased accidents rates. Imagine the wacko driving modified Honda Civic like crazy, if their car had the torque of an Ioniq 5...
    - Super quiet. Also no surprise I guess, but I find that the refinement is really premium. No rattle or annoying sound, even when riding on super bad roads after a terrible winter in QC.
    - Range is better than expected. I had been reading lots of posts on here about people complaining about range so I was a bit worried, but so far I am averaging 5km/kwh, mix of city and highway. Temperatures have been ranging between -9C and +15C (crazy temperature swings here during the spring season). I am very pleased with that.
-The head-up display is fantastic! I love the animated arrows showing you which way to turn when using navigation.
    - HDA2 is really impressive! I had been reading people complaining that the car is rocking side to side when using HDA2, but I did not experience that at all. Quite the opposite, I find that it stays very precisely in the center of the lane, even when the marking is almost completely erased after the winter. I think it is also using the car in front as guide, so it helps when you are following someone I think.
    - Very nice large trunk. Bigger than what I had on my Lexus NX.
    - Super comfortable seats.
    - Lack of rear wiper has not been an issue for me. Yes the rear window gets dirty, especially after a snow fall, but it's not like you can't see through. I guess in the winter I will keep a squeegee in my garage to wipe the rear window once in a while, as I do expect that it will get very dirty in peak salt road season...

Negatives (or rather things that would be nice to have):
    - I wish the doors would lock automatically when I walk away from the car.
    - I don't understand why the car does not remember your last regen breaking settings when starting a new drive.
    - The sensors quickly get blocked when it snows and stop working, it would be nice to have a way to clean them up with a squirt of windshield washer fluid. Same for back camera.

So that's it, I keep learning something new about the car everyday, so I will keep you all posted. I am also planning a road trip when the weather is nicer, so will update on that as well!

Thanks for the detailed info. I suppose the rear window is not going to be a huge problem for me either. The most important thing is to be able to see flashing lights of emergency vehicles and general outline of a vehicle to know if someone is behind you. I don't really care to have the glass crystal clear to see the whites of the driver behind me.

I was originally leaning towards a Mach-e select basic in order to afford an EV. The Ioniq 5 is very well appointed for the cost giving a better bang for your buck even without taking into account the fed rebate.

  17. According to this video @ 1:27 only the LR 2WD models will resort to a level 3 default upon restart, other models will default to last selected level.

This video starting @ 1:26 mentioning that when in sport or snow mode the vehicle will revert to normal mode- instructions on how to adjust preferences for default modes follow shortly:
    :)
    Hope this helps

  18. Same thing happens with Kona EV due to the low location of the radar sensor, probably a good thing not to depend on these systems when the weather is foul;)

I received my I5 LR AWD + Ultimate package earlier this afternoon.

Took it for a 2 hour drive on highway 401, some secondary highways with centre/side lines and some with only a center line; HDA2 is far better (than my Kona's auto steer) being rock solid on the 401. None of the LKA steering bouncing within secondary centre/side lines. It behaved like a Kona on secondary highways with only a centre line i.e. attempts to steer and makes you place hands on steering much sooner than HDA2, particularly on curves. Like Newby4EV wrote, HDA2 is impressive. Handling was good.

I can't comment on range yet but my Kona had a 14.4 Km/KWH when I drove it to the dealer at 12C (53-54F). Ipedal driving is excellent but will keep using "auto" regen level. Stereo seems very similar quality as the one in my 2021 mid-trim Kona EV; boomy bass was preset at +3 and turned it down. Far better tires than the non-grip ones supplied with the Kona EV.

I took a neighbour for a short ride and noticed the front passenger seat is also a comfort seat (able to fully recline). I was priority 30 in Canada for this one so maybe I lucked out with dual comfort seats (big surprise!); not shown on my spec sheet either. Anyone else get this feature in Canada?? Back seats are not power recline nor power sliding (no surprise). The seats seem to have good adjustments and are comfortable.

Range, charging and rear visibility (camera/window) scenarios won't be known for a while since most driving will be local and I can Level 2 charge at home. Soon to be ceramic coated. One more photo for everyone ...

  20. I can't even hear mine when driving at speed as road noise dominates. Must be a nice change having a silent cabin. The Michelin tires probably help and obviously have better control/grip than the Nexans included with Kona EV.
    Enjoy your new fabulous car:)

Thanks! Interesting videos. You are right, regen is remembered if you select level 1,2 or 3, but not if you are in iPedal. When I select iPedal, turn off car, and start again, it reverts back to level 3. I wish it would stay in iPedal! But really no big deal as it is so easy to switch with the paddles.

Update on the ceramic coating ...

It was washed by the dealer to place in their showroom. The tech doing the prep work (several washes and clay bar) noticed the entire body has an unidentified haze on the surface of the paint. We don't know where/how the haze came to be - I suspect during shipping, tech suspects the dealer may have had an acid wash done. It had swirls in the paint too from a buffer used in polishing the paint . Causing more work for the tech to remove the haze/swirls; at least he can get rid of both.

He started doing individual body panels for the ceramic coating late today so he's making progress. Should be able to pick it up on Saturday (this being Wednesday). The haze removal delayed the job by a full day (it's a one-person operation). He said I should see a noticeable difference simply due to the haze removal, let alone the ceramic coating being applied.

As a side note, he said the flaps keep opening/closing and a fan running in his heated shop, randomly; that is a known occurrence but unusual none the less. When he's done, I'll take some more photos and post one or two if they show a big difference. I'm more concerned with protecting the paint and having that wiper-less rear window ceramic coated.

I will update this post once it's all done.
