Thanks for all the info. Might save some money on the front end by just wiring up a 14-50 plug system to where I ran wires for EVSE. Or just shell out the $600 for a wall mount and not worry in the rainy months...

Ok - EV newbie, car is on order ('23 Iconic, arriving ~July) and just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly... With this cable, I would only need to bring in an electrician to install a dryer plug in my garage and get Level 2 charging out of the new cable? Also, I assume the Mini App would facilitate charging at our electric company's EV 'off-peak' hours?
That is all correct. However, you specifically want a NEMA 14-50 outlet as that is the plug that comes with the charger. You can order other adapters for other outlets but the adapters are expensive and all on back order. So if starting from scratch, get the 14-50. You can schedule the charging through both the app and the car itself to match lower cost rates.
Sweet, that'll save a bunch of money, thanks! I'll make sure to get the right outlet. Shouldn't be a difficult/expensive install - it's a fairly new house, there's plenty of room in the electrical panel, and that part of the basement to the garage is unfinished. No problem!
There’s some debate whether you should get a regular 14-50 receptacle (like a Leviton for ten bucks or so from Lowes or HD) or a high-end industrial-grade one like Hubbell or Eaton from a trade supplier (at five to 15 times the price), but if you’ll be un-re-plugging it often (or regularly) it’d be wise to get the industrial outlet. ETA: I went with the Eaton off Amazon and it’s possibly twice the size of the Leviton at HD. I got a deep double-gang box for it.
Can't imagine why we would, but even 10x the price is still only $100. Seems like a no-brainer to me for something that important.
If you plug and unplug your EVSE all the time (I can’t imagine that’s a common use case) then get a heavy duty socket. If you leave it plugged in permanently then frankly a heavy duty socket is just a waste of money. Both of ours stay plugged in so I had my guy go with the Leviton for both socket installs. I should say the house is rented though so I’m not spending any more than I need to on a house that isn’t mine.
Finally got my 14-50 installed today so figured I would add some pictures of the EVSE installed. I ordered the wall mounting kit from some place in Germany as they aren’t easy to find. The picture of the box label is the part number for the wall mount. It works, but the way things are oriented, the ESVE wants to be below the outlet. You can see in the pictures that I flipped the outlet upside down (ground down) and mounted things sideways.
