Clarity Issues

So, this morning, I noticed something strange. After the car warmed up in my ultra-cold climate, the engine turned off to run on EV according to the energy usage display. However, the dash gauge still showed a white line instead of a blue line, suggesting it was NOT being powered by the battery, but by the ICE (which was not "lit up". What could this mean? The pictures are not very good, but I assure you that even though the engine appears "lit up" in the picture, it was not. It was lit up earlier but then shut off, with the power line still showing white.

I have seen this once before, all white gauge in EV mode. I presume this is some type of glitch in the display.

Here's an issue I haven't really heard discussed yet: when I call my wife while she is driving the Clarity with the heater on, the fan noise on my end is really noticeable and makes it difficult to hear her properly. She has to turn the fan down manually to have a conversation.
The Chevy Volt reduces the fan speed when a phone call is initiated.

Several owners have complained about that.

On mine sometimes the app does and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s always been like that, so I tend not to rely on it. I know a full charge will take about 2 hours and 5 minutes.

EV range seems to be getting much better. Last three days (mid-50's) the range gauge losses about 0.9 miles per 1.0 miles of actual odometer reading (that's a rounded guess since not tracking 10th's - so could be plus/minus 0.1 off of 1.0 for all I know).

Thanks so much, Ken. Works perfectly.

New forum member with 2100 miles on my car. I find it somewhat comforting to learn that all of my glitches are being experienced by many owners. I've logged cases with Honda, but they always just say take it to dealer. I had not linked the Sirius lockup to remote precondition. Reboot fixes it

I also reported that from two recent long trips, I got 41.5 MPG (HV mode with net constant battery charge) while displays show I got 45.5. I hope a software update fixes this.

Yeah, definitely less wasted space in both cases.

BTW, I changed the skin on the Clarity this morning and rearranged the icons to make the page more space efficient. I like it, but my wife hasn't yet seen it. It's her car, so she'll have the final word.

Ken7, I don't have the Clarity yet (ordered but won't be here until mid-March). What does it mean when you say 'changed the skin on the Clarity and rearranged the icons....'? Are you talking about the center screen and you can create new skin and design your own screen layout? Thanks

Can any Canadian owner confirm that

1. The car does have a battery heater (not sure how you can check this)
2. The car have a heat pump in addition to Resistant heating? I asked my dealer about this but they said they will get back to me which they never did...
3 How long does it take to pre-heat the car? I thought heat pump can generate heat very fast but base on reading some of the earlier post, it takes up to 30 minutes to warm up the car?

Thanks

Another question, not sure if this is the same for US and Canadian model,

Does the Clarity has rain sensing wiper? The Canadian brochure indicates it has 'Smart Wiper System', the dealer told me it means rain sensing wiper but when I watch Honda video on YouTube, the video indicate there is a 'Auto' setting replacing 'Intermittent' on the wiper control but when I test drive the Clarity, I only see Intermittent, Low, High on the Wiper Stalk, thanks

Yup, it’s changing the skin of the center screen. A few of us had posted shots of our revised layouts. There’s actually a second skin that’s included in the Clarity.

1. I am pretty sure the Canadian versions have a battery heater, the U.S. versions do not.
2. Resistive heating only, which is a big drain on the battery
3. The car heats up pretty fast. What you are referring to is when you turn on pre-conditioning it turns off after 30 minutes on its own.

I think the sensing wiper blades were supposed to be a feature but it didn't seem to make it to the final version. Same with auto-sensing high beams. I have never had either of those on a car I have owned so I would have liked to have had them. Oh well.

Could you link us to this, Ken? I'd love to experiment with the skins.

Rajiv, finally found it searching thru Ken7's post

You can search by the title 'Center Display Screen "Skins"' or 'Customize the Center Screen'.

This is very interesting, I guess I will be sitting in the cold garage and playing with this feature for hours.... Oh wait, I can pre-heat the car first before I even step into the car, how revolutionary :)

Since I don't have the car yet nor the owner's manual, I will be learning thru you guys on all these tips and tricks, thanks a million

Edit: Didn't see that Ken7 has already post a reply. Woke up this morning and the first thing I did was the search, read the posts and then reply...

Should we try drawing Honda's attention by posting a link to this issues thread here: facebook.com/hondaclarity or would it just create negative publicity?

ok, I am trying to get a handle on this range estimate problem of the Clarity base on reading the posts here and in other reviews. Since I don't have the car yet, the below are all my interpretation of other have said.

Please correct me if I got anything wrong

Please tell me which display show the correct (either analog or digital) range and which one is wrong

Display:
- Front instrument panel (FIP) directly in front of the driver
1. There is an analog battery and gas gauge that goes up and down on the left and right side of the FIP like a traditional gas car
2. You can display an actual digital (number) range of both battery and gas in the middle of the FIP

- Middle tablet screen (MTS)
1. From Info -> Energy Flow Screen, you will see the energy flow graphic in the middle and the battery/gas range on the left and right of the screen

Is there any other location/screen that can display range information?

If the gas range are wrong, wouldn't that be a potential danger where people may get stranded out in the middle of nowhere and freeze to death with another cold snap coming in early March?

I find the graphical depiction of fuel remaining to be far more accurate than the nutty actual numerical range.

The exact opposite occurs when discussing the electrical range. There, the graphical range is nutty, but the actual numerical statement of remaining EV range is far more accurate.
