Runflats are new to me. The tire sidewall on my Hankooks has a star and the letters RSC in a circle. I thought that indicated it was a runflat. Not so?
The star denotes OE tire, meaning one of the pre-installed tires from MINI. But RSC is definitely runflat. Interesting. I believe New Zealand or Australia was getting OE runflats on the SE, but I don't know if anywhere else was.

I do know from an unfortunate mixup when I replaced my Goodyear Eagle F1s there are both a runflat and non-runflat version.

Thanks Puppethead.

Based on the mileage on the MINI (27k) and the condition of the tires (7/32 inch of tread left) I am betting that these are not the tires that were originally delivered with the car when it was new. I am thinking the runflat tires replaced the factory tires at some point. The car was sold as a certified pre-owned car about 15 months ago, so the runflats may have been put on by that dealer at that time.

TireRack describes the Hankooks as "Ultra High Performance Summer" tires which makes me think they are not going to be appropriate for Eastern Washington / North Idaho winters. We really don't want to deal with seasonal switching, so I am looking for an all-season tire that would get us through at least some light wintery conditions. We can use our AWD SUV if the weather is too sketchy. I would really like an all-season tire with good range though. Perhaps all-season and good range are congradictory terms?

WRG-5 Nokian are all weather tires have snow flake on them not all season bc I can’t get them in 195 I bought 205 but I was worry they can rubs a shocks I put them with 10 mm Spacers but you need longer bolts for installation .In New York I run them from November to April I like them very much without noticing range reduction but I bet they will do better from April to November bc much hotter weather as they designed for all year around .I have extra 16” rims I don’t have to sweep them driving Hankooks through summer .Im seeing them as cheap $127.17 in size 205/55/16 on a Net

Thanks Rexsio. It's good to know that I might have some flexibility on the tire width if I can't find a good 195/55R16 all season.

Which bolts did you use with the 10mm spacers? I am surprised ECS doesn't specify (or include) the longer bolts.

Most likely the dealer put new tires on, and every other MINI model comes with runflats. That was the mixup I had when replacing my Eagle F1s, the dealer inadvertently put runflats on even though I specifically said non-runflats. My dealer made it right, so it wasn't a big deal. I tried the runflats for a couple days but they were noticeably noisier. If not for the complete silence of the SE (no engine noise) I would be fine with runflats.

Definitely don't use those summer tires on snow-covered or icy roads, you will have absolutely no traction.

@Rexsio I'm thinking more about the Nokians as all-year tires on my 16-inch rims. In the end do you think the spacers were needed for the 205/55 R16 Nokians? Do you think the larger tires would actually fit well without the 10mm spacers? Thanks!

Some members were saying they fit 205 on 16” rim but as I mounted them on my second set of 16 “ rims and install them in my garage have time to look at them as 195 /16” rim OEM setting is like 1/4” from struts front I decided go with spacers for just safety reason . Those Nokians all weather come only in 205/16” rims unfortunately. When I ask tires shops they don’t want to install them on my SE .I drive for 1/2 a year I like them and I don’t realy see differences with my setting with spacers which requires longer bolts as I mentioned in previous posts Pic with Hankook and Nokian 205IMG_1696.webp IMG_1705.webp

After 13 months and 22k mi, I'm at about 3/32". Costco has the Indy 500s w/ a $60 rebate until Aug 24. I'm going to take that into America's Tire and have them price match, and then I can use my Firestone CC and get an additional $160 rebate, which should get each tire to around $100.

I really want to try the Potenza RE71RS, but can't justify the extra cost and worse treadwear for daily driving. It would be a blast, though. The Indy 500s have a treadwear rating of 340, and I'm getting about the same mileage as my wife got w/ her
Q4 etron w stock Bridgestone Alenza Sports w/ a treadwear rating of 500.

If money is an issue, then high thread wear tyres are great. The more aggressive tyres with low thread wear are significantly better do drive with. Night and day. You will probably only get half the lifetime as they encourage you to use them.

I paid $400 each for my AD09s, whit was about $50 more than the eagle f1s. At $200 more for four tyres, I consider it a bargain. The entertainment value equates to $33 per month. Less than a takeaway meal.

Now it is probably worse than this as TW 200 wears out a lot quicker, so you probably buy 2 sets to 1. Still worth it. If you use your SE as a commuter, then get commuter tyres (economy). If not, track tyres transform the little machine into a beast.

Are you using yours for the street or on the track? How many km/miles are you getting out of them?

This is one of my everyday drivers. I've had them for over a year and 10k km. Probably 50% left, so 20k.They are so much fun, and completely transform the car from from incredible to unbelievable. Ironically, they are actually pretty good in the wet. In the dry, well..... Worth it in smiles/kWh.

That's why I'm still considering spending extra for the PS5 – probably 9/10 the stickiness and fun of a TW 200 tire, perhaps 9/10 the efficiency of the OE Eagle F1s, and likely twice the treadwear of either.

So the shop says my three year old hankooks have dry rotted and are at a low tread, after 20,000 miles. They look good to me, but does this make sense?

Every tire if have splits in tire doesn’t matter 20000 miles 3 years old they garbage as my Hankooks 4 years with low milage car is in garage no sun exposure no winter outside they in perfect condition don’t save on tires is your safety issues not a matter spend extra $600! For next 3-4 years . As is $100 a year just quit Starbucks Coffee will be free safe drive .Are you walking with sleepers in winter or you in really hot State try to safe on tires as hot weather kills a tires faster .A pattern of your driving fast acceleration big torque on SE have influence of wearing tires. Fast you own performance car change a tires as often as necessary .

As my tires rotted in 2 years with 15000 miles on my new Subaru I try to fight a dealer but they not responsible for tires installed on my car as warranty not cover and I try through manufacture of a tires of Bridgestone as shop designated to deal with it and all a paperwork get me to nowhere sound like is a scam they installing garbage tires on new cars to keep prices lower not covering any warranty!I just give up bought new Nokian all weather tires as 20000 miles later they look brand new.

I'm starting to think the Hankooks are so called max performance summer tires and my lovely spouse drove enough in 20-30 degree F weather this past winter to damaged them. I'll have to decided between a performance all season type EV tire or a summer/winter tire in rotation. At first blush, it looks like only run flats are currently available in a EV tune. .

When I shopped around for new tires I didn't find my MINI dealer charging significantly more than anywhere else, and it's been very convenient to have them replace tires and get an alignment check. Of course one is limited to the tires they sell, although I brought some Nokians to my dealer and they kindly mounted them (for a fee). Others may have different experiences.

As Hankooks should not be driven below 45’ you right they could be damage and wear fast as I’m very fan of Nokian WRG -5 Remedy as I put many post about it or read about of on Nokian.com I have them on Subaru Forester year around and on SE for 1/2 year switching to Hankooks for summer with extra wheels /rims as winter in NY is not so harsh

As Nokians are not available for all weather tires WRG -Remedy for 16”rims only for Winter 16 “ full winter tires as I put on forum I get then 205/55/16 “ with spacers 10 mm as I was worry to rub a shocks as driving last winter in NY they perform excellent with spacers on SE with a bigger width of 205 as factory is 195/55/16” as 10 mm spacer is really nothing .
