Ford makes deal with Tesla to share its Supercharger network

Looks like a2z's "typhoon" adapter has finally moved out of "coming soon" status??

Tom's "belligerent New Yorker" style grates on me somewhat. He's also too high-and-mighty
to answer a simple piece of email.

Tesla has something similar listed for the past three months. I'm tired of waiting so I'm going with a 3d party. You snooze, you loose.

Of course there is no guarantee when I'll get it. We'll see. But Tesla shows it but won't let me order it. ... So they don't have a backlog.

At Oklahoma State U, we had a bunch of New Jersey and New York students whose 'out of state' tuition was less than what they paid in their home states. First problem, they spoke too fast and thought your inhale was a break for them to jump in. Second problem, well each was unique. But it was obvious they were not the "A team" and needed every bit of education they could get.

Don't get me wrong, clever minds are pretty much universally distributed. But sometimes language and custom makes it hard to see.

From the other side … as a New Yorker, the slow pace at which people move and speak in the south can be exasperating. And as far as the appearance of intelligence, yeah that cultural divide works both ways.

One thing I “like” about the NY “belligerence” is its authenticity. I’ve lived in NorCal and people there were generally fake. They acted welcoming and low key, but were likely to stab you in the back. A NY’er will stab you to your face ;)

"Owners of existing and future Hyundai EVs with the current CCS will have access to the Tesla Supercharging Network starting in Q1 2025. Hyundai will offer an adapter to these customers. Hyundai will also make adapters available to charge NACS-equipped vehicles at CCS chargers.":)
OK VW, time to step up to the plate.
 
That's great news. I saw a video last night from The Ioniq Guy doing a test of his Ioniq 5 on a Supercharger with a magicdock. It worked but wasn't very fast. I'm guessing all of that will be sorted out by the time NACS is active for Hyundai/Kia.

The fact that access won't be until 2025 when most others will gain access in 2024 might be to give the time to coordinate the 800V/software to work at proper speeds.
 
I think the adapters are still in testing phase right now. Tom M. from State of Charge reviewed a prototype last week. An interview from a Ford rep said the adapters they will be selling to their customers are being made by Tesla.

I do prefer the wording in this release, as it details that all existing Kia EVs (with the exception of the 2015-2019 Soul EV CHAdeMO) will work - with the forthcoming NACS to CCS adapter as well as autopay inclusive:

  • "Existing Niro EV and EV6 owners and future EV9 owners will have access to Tesla Superchargers via forthcoming NACS adapter and software updates with activation and payment via Kia Connect
  • [1] Excludes 2015-2019 MY Soul EV - CHAdeMO.
  • Kia EV owners will have access and autopay convenience using Tesla’s Supercharger network via the Kia Connect[3] app once a software upgrade[4] is completed. Kia EV owners will be able to search, locate and navigate to available Tesla Superchargers through their EV infotainment screen and on their smart phone devices, including charger availability, status and pricing.":)

If Niro, does that also imply Kona? Same sled and many common parts.

A2Z is now listing their "typhoon" adapter for sale. I haven't checked for others, but I
think there are a couple of aliexpress-grade knockoffs that I wouldn't touch. If there aren't
yet, wait.

All this stuff is doable RIGHT NOW, we just have to get Tesla to wise up and stop
deliberately slow-walking the process.

It is not listed for sale on their web site. It is listed as coming soon but it is not available for purchase at this time . If you have seen it for sale please provide a link. Thanks
 
I could have sworn I didn't see the "comjng soon" thing there a couple of days ago,
maybe it was a browser screwup. Their website is a bit of a horror show. The blurb
at the bottom says that they have them in stock, though, so it's gotta be imminent.

BMW follows suit:
"Woodcliff Lake, NJ – October 17, 2023…. In a continued effort to provide the best possible electric vehicle charging experience for its customers, BMW of North America and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars NA announced today that drivers of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce Combined Charging System (CCS) battery electric vehicles (BEV) in the U.S. and Canada will gain access to designated Tesla Supercharger stations in early 2025.
The companies will work together in the coming months to create a seamless customer experience enabling BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce drivers to find and access available Superchargers on their vehicle’s display, and make payments through their respective vehicle’s brand app."
No mention of adapters availability...yet.

Toyota/ Lexus will incorporate NACS ports starting 2025

"Toyota will incorporate the NACS ports into certain Toyota and Lexus BEVs starting in 2025, including the all-new, three-row, battery-electric Toyota SUV that will be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK). Additionally, customers owning or leasing applicable Toyota and Lexus vehicles equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) will be offered access to an adapter to enable NACS charging starting in 2025.
Through the Toyota and Lexus apps, customers have access to an extensive charging network, comprising over 84,000 charging ports in North America"
Almost forgot about these 2, the dominoes are falling quite rapidly now.:)
 
I found the Tesla app on a couple of APK mirrors [they had identical content, that's a good check
to do], and tried it on a tablet here. Displays a dark screen with the tesla logo in the middle and
then promptly crashes.

Is there some backend Android service it depends on that I very well might have disabled? If so, why
can't I get a useful error message to that effect instead of blind failure?

I have an old Samsung Galaxy phone and just loaded the Tesla App. I used the "guest" account and it seemed to work with normal startup videos and options.

A "T-Mobile" phone, I used "Play Store" to load it.
