On a 50kw charger you won’t throttle as fast, but on a 150kw it’s a different story: https://forum.abetterrouteplanner.c...ng-data-for-the-bolt-kona-niro-soul-and-leaf/

Exactly. The throttle starts much earlier (under 60% SOC) unless you're using a slow 50 kWh charger in which case you're starting off already throttled so it's a moot discussion.

Here is another graph that clearly illustrates the Kona throttle points:

It occurs to me that if more people start towing with EVs, esp. on their long RV trips, that
we're going to start needing pull-THRU rapid charger bays. Some owners might otherwise
need to drop the trailer just to get situated properly. Extension cables probably wouldn't
help, and I doubt anyone makes a viable CCS extender anyways.

Some of the installations in the EU seem to be sort of a pull-thru architecture but designed
to accomodate multiple standard-length vehicles at once, not intended for a full rig
taking up all the space while other drivers wait.

The Tesla people have already been down this road. Some of the newer SC have a spot designed for pull-through.

Even with my Kona, getting into an EA charger is sometimes difficult given how short some of the cables are.

EA isn’t offering free charging for some reason, are they? I ask because the last two times I’ve used their nearby charger it has just started juicing up for free. I plug in, and it starts charging.

If this is a charger error then you didn’t hear it from me! Ha ha

If you don't own an ID.4 than perhaps it is wise to enjoy the new (favorable) rates while you can;)

Turns out the favorable rate was intentional!

Pulled up to the same charger again yesterday and it had this message displayed:

“All sessions at this charger will be complimentary. This is a temporary measure while we work to remove equipment and install new chargers.”

The only thing better than a free charge is a GUILT FREE free charge. Ha ha

That is awesome, wish they would do that around here

Was it also throttled to 50 kWh? I heard that would be their usual procedure during the replacement process.

The free ride has come to an end.. Drove by yesterday to the same place to charge up, and it’s all fenced off.. It was good while it lasted! :D

I’m really curious as to what they’re doing that they need to replace actual hardware. Whatever it is they better hurry up, because I’ll have to use EVgo until they come back online. I don’t care for EVgo.

EA's replacing a bunch of chargers, mainly along the East Coast, mainly over quality issues. I believe the bad chargers were made by Efacec, and most of the replacements are Signet.

I'd check out the BGE chargers nearby at the Ascend One building, which is practically right behind Walmart. On Greenlots. More info: https://www.plugshare.com/location/248564

Still time to enjoy a free charge in the US at any EA station (2 days to go):)

Does the app depend on having its own solid data connection via cell? It may have gotten out
of sync just because it couldn't talk to EA when it needed to. A more remote possibility is
spotty connectivity to the charger installation, unless that's hardwired to a local provider.

Yet more evidence for how stupid EA's dependency on the app is. If they'd just implemented
tap-cards like most other networks this would have been so much easier. No app, no phone
connectivity issues. No app-store that requires its own account just to download something
that's supposed to be public. Ability to participate in the network interoperability that seems
to be developing.
