We did not get it. It's basically insurance and insurers know their business. They will make money selling it. Imagine if I asked you to give me $1500 and there was a 1 in 99 chance (these odds are just for demonstration, I don't know the real ones (but I am sure that Honda does)) I would give you more back than you gave me, would you say "I better pay the $1500, I would never forgive myself if I missed out on being that 1 in 99?" I did not opt for an extended warranty on my Clarity since it's leased. I did a lot of research on extended warranties for my Q7 that I purchased last year and ended up going with Geico Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI). It covers the vehicle for 7 years and up to 100k miles. For my vehicle it ended up being around 11 dollars more a month over my regular insurance policy (250 deductible). The caveat being you start paying right away even though you still have the factory warranty. But it still ended up being cheaper than the 6000-7500 dollar quotes I was getting from the dealership and aftermarket warranties. It might not make as much sense if the Honda Warranty is only 1500, but the MBI might be lower on the clarity as well.

I agree with @ManKo - I am new to EV's (but do have hybrid experience) and this is an all new model for Honda with a lot of ground breaking tech (for them). I bought more than I should have ($1714 for 8yr/120k from Saccucci Honda) but if I sell (or give it to one of my children) it has a lot of added value, and if I trade with dealer I'll get a portion back. If this were a standard Prius hybrid, NO; if it were a Prius Prime, YES, but you can't get them from Toyota without an arm and a leg.

i am with you dstrauss .. happened to me recently a month before CRV warranty hondacare expired ... it started with some stalling and noise at certain speed changes like 28, 36 etc almost like a gear shift but was a noise from engine. Went and complained to dealer who did send a deaf mechanic who did not find anything and they did not take in the car. Tried two times both times the same deaf old man came to test drive. 2-3 months later (hondcare already expired) the engine light came on ... before i could get dealer appt I was stranded with the car refusing to start. Cost me 1500 to get timing chain, vtc actuator, tensioner, guide.
It is still having issues starting. I have to try starting 10-15 times before the engine kicks in.
I am thinking of complaining to Honda about this issue. Car only has 56 k miles

I got one because it only brought up my payments a small amount and the car is new tech. All in all, it’s still cheaper per month than buying stand alone roadside assistance, which is included , for the same amount of time. Since I intend to give this car to my daughter when I’m done with it, seemed like a good deal.

FYI, during 3-Year/60,000-Mile standard warranty, 24-hour emergency road service is included.

Just bought my Clarity 3 days ago after spending untold hours for a solid week on this forum. I don’t ordinarily buy extended warranties but since there is no reliability history to go on and since I keep cars past 10 years, I opted for it. However, I would not consider it at normal dealer pricing (my dealer offered the Honda Care D80, 8 yr/100k/0deduc) for $2650! Not in a million years would I consider it at that price. Thanks to someone on this forum posting a link to Hyannis Honda I found it there for only $1304. They will email you the quote along w a unique quote number good for a stated period of time. I used this and my dealer reluctantly matched this price. Don’t know if it’s true but he claimed that was only $50 above his cost. Good at any Honda dealer and hassle free since info is in the Honda system and pulls up at any dealership. Also you can cancel anytime and get back the remaining unused amount.

I strongly believe in an extended care warranty for this kind of product. This is a new car with technology that is somewhat new for Honda. It's a special kind of beast unlike the typical Civic, Accord etc. I won't rehash through all of the pros and cons because it ultimately comes down to peace of mind. I have never regretted having insurance or a warranty (even though some may have been a waste of money). However, I have bitterly regretted the few times that I didn't. Having said that, the best price I've found is from the following dealer:

The process with Tauni took approximately 5 minutes. This included the conversation, payment over the phone, receiving an instant warranty to esign and returning that warranty online with my signature. $1364 for 8 years/100K.
It all depends on price versus coverage. I believe third party extended warranties are not good deals overall. The only one that makes sense is Honda Care. The price is reasonable. So I got it. I am not worried about new tech in Clarity (battery/powertrain/hybrid). Those items are covered for between 60k to 100 or even 150k. The items that can fail are things like sensors/heater/radar. These are exposed and have higher chance of failure in 6 years. The other issue to consider is complexity of the car, which forces you to take it to dealer even for non-powertrain related items.

The Clarity won’t be old enough till perhaps Nov of 2020 for the 3 year regular warranty to run out for the earliest of purchasers.

Nice. How did you adjust the headlight beams? Mines feels very low, at night time, I can't barely see anything ahead of me...so weird. My old car that didn't have HID had better visibility with their lights. Also, why did you adjust your headlight beams?

I adjusted mine upwards (but not so much as to blind oncoming cars) because they were illuminating the area just in front of the car but not further down the road and at hwy speeds I felt like I was unsafely overdriving then. There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to properly adjust headlights, using nothing more than a tape measure, wall, and level area. (Basically, the top of the illumination centroid should be level with the ground height of the lights at 25-30 ft) I have not found any way to adjust them L-R; only up and down and unfortunately nothing will help the anemic “high” beams. Hope this helps.
