Trunk would not lock

An odd thing happened yesterday. Put some items in the truck. Closed it. Would not lock. Tried several times. Drove off. Warning: Trunk Open on the dash. After driving a few blocks, with the trunk going up and down, it finally locked on its own. Cannot repeat the behavior.
 
I've had the trunk refuse to close when I was trying to shut it with the hand holding the key fob (because it thinks I might be shutting the fob into the trunk, presumably). After moving the fob to the other hand or my pocket, it shut on the next try. Could it have been something like that?
 
You gotta have a sense of humor. No. But as I said, when I was driving, the trunk slammed shut. My wife suggested that I lock and then unlock the car. If that happens again I will try it.
 
Yesterday, I took things out of my trunk and shut it before heading up to the office. When I came back down, the trunk was not shut all the way. I closed it with a little more force and it latched properly. I assumed that I had not pushed it hard enough the first time, but I'll be paying closer attention to this now.
 
We were on a trip recently. A tourist locked car keys in the trunk. A rental. No phone service. After about an hour's work, he was able to get the doors unlocked using a long metal rod. But, no access to trunk. Someone had to pull out a back seat to allow access to the trunk. So, thank you Honda, and probably others, for the safety of preventing keys to be locked in the car.
 
Exactly, I was going to suggest you might have put a bag in the trunk with keys. It gets really unhappy about that and refuses to lock :)

Glad you got it figured out. I do that about every other time I drive the car.
 
Unrelated, but when both of us get near or enter the car at about the same time, the computer can get confused. In another thread, there is talk about multiple beeps when walking away. We just need to be aware and be sure to lock the car with the key if that happens.

So the trunk locked itself as you were driving around even though the fob in the purse was still in the trunk?
 
Different but possibly related.... If I approach the trunk expecting it to unlock with key fob in hand that reaches for trunk latch, it will not unlock. Key fob must be a foot or so away from trunk for trunk to unlock.
 
Hmmmm. Proximity sensor? I usually use the manual latch on the trunk not the key fob. Sometimes will release trunk from inside using the switch near the door.
 
Confirmed. I tossed my wife's purse (not my wife) in the trunk. Her key is in her purse. My key in my pocket. The trunk would not latch until I took her purse out of the trunk.
