I dunno. I tend to think this won't last, but we shall see. I mean, we know Musk's predictions always come true precisely as he says, but still... ;)
 
There is a report that Musk has been in communication with Putin. This explains the sudden Starlink shutdown that aborted a Ukraine attack; Russian access to Starlink; advocacy for limiting Ukraine support; crude actions of screw-up the 2024 Presidential election; Twitter/X full of Russian propaganda, and; support for Donald Trump. These report come from a Wall Street Journal article that I will buy and issue to read.

Technical brilliance does not excuse disloyalty.

Well, if it is any consolation, I would have done the same in your shoes. Past qtrs and events certainly did not predict a blow-out qtr (relatively speaking) at this time. And even this morning, I don't really understand the continued surge in the stock.

It sure seems to me that, even if one takes Elon's promises at face value -- far from a sure bet -- the current price seems to have left the realm of any reasonable earnings potential. Which suggests to me that it won't last, but these things aren't always rational, at least in the short term.

My thinking is stock prices are a "popularity contest" loosely connected to profits. Especially stocks that pay no dividends.

As for the mythical, "affordable" Tesla Model <anything>, the Chinese and one domestic EV maker have shown more success in bringing product to market at less than Tesla prices.

Well, the stock hypesters on the business channels call it momentum (when there is no good fundamental reason). But the non-pro followers (lemmings) could also be led over a cliff when reality sets in. When I hear hype, you can also bet it is driven by an agenda. The big boys could be selling while their stock is being driven up by the so called analysts. I have seen this over and over,.. which is why I stay away from these types of stocks. I would rather miss out and leave money on the table than risk catching a falling knife (have learned my lessons in the past).

But have to admit TSLA and Musk are certainly great entertainment for me.
 
A recent thought, if Elon is prosecuted and later convicted for election crimes, illegal foreign policy actions, or other crimes, he might be imprisoned or paroled which would limit his business actions.

This would collapse "wealth" that is based on the "Musk" effect on TSLA stock price. Tesla would not disappear unless the board of directors declare it ... well maybe his private companies.

Yup, he has said that himself, perhaps half joking. So for him a Trump win is existential.

My own investment strategies have always been hyper-conservative, so I have no financial skin in this game, but it is indeed an interesting spectacle. Tesla could turn out to be either one of the century's great business successes or one of its biggest flameouts, but it will surely be an interesting circus as long as Herr Musk is around.

I really like Musk's technical achievements but having read his biology, Asperger syndrome applies. For example, one running for office or his friend in the Kremlin.

Looks like the TSLA stock surge is petering out. Down almost $20 from its recent high. Is this just profit taking, and reloading for another run? Or has reality set in again?
 
I have no idea about the stock price. It is a daily, stock trading, community vote. But I was thinking about the recent "cease and desist" order about Elon's PAC.

My understanding there is a maximum $10,000 fine and/or confinement. For the wealthy, $10,000 is 'couch coins' but confinement, that would really sting even the wealthy.

I'm with you. I've been rigorously boycotting everything Elon-related for a couple years now. I've kept my old Twitter account alive to avoid being spoofed, but haven't tweeted since November 2022.

Meanwhile, Tesla stock continues to decline today, down about 3% as I write this, but still higher than it's been much of the year. This feels to me more like investors saying, "Oops, we got a little carried away last week," and not "OMG, we just realized Elon's full of s**t!"
 
It is really just sad
I have driven Lotus cars for 40 years, so the original Roadster was awesome
I remember a close friend buying a model S new and checking it out new back in 2013 or so.
To see the company which has defined EV for 15 years just going goofy is, well, sad.
I hope the stock tanks, hard
Not because of ill will toward the company, but it is the only way they will get Elon out and let him do, well, whatever, elsewhere in the future

Musk has a legal issue with not showing up for a mandatory court appearance:

Civil contempt
Involves coercive sentences intended to convince the offender to comply with the court order. Penalties include fines, imprisonment without a predetermined release date, and appearing at a contempt hearing. The offender can avoid punishment by complying with the court order.​

Musk blew off a Thursday court appearance and the attempt to make it a Federal case got rejected. A "fine" won't have as much effect as a lockup until the PAC stops and reverses the lottery to the Judge and prosecutor's satisfaction.
